Dog Obedience Training - Teaching how to Sit
A poorly trained dog is an annoyance and can even be a danger to himself and others. A properly trained dog, on the other hand, is an excellent and pleasant friend.
When teaching always keep in mind that dogs react best to encouraging backing– yelling at your dog and hitting him will not get done the job, in its place use rewards such as goodies and your approval – this will make dog training much more pleasant for both of you!
There is a standard “process” to teaching, no matter what you want your pet to do. The solution is to get the dog to carry out the act and at that exact moment give the instruction for the act, then commend the dog and recompense him with a goody. After a while, he will get the message and link the act with the command.
Given below a number of ways you can make use of to teach your pet with the most important instruction – Sit.
1. The first thing you have to do is to get your puppy or dog to link the action of sitting with the order. To do this, just spend time with your dog and when he sits give the sit command.
2. Going down to your dog’s height will let you give his recompense (goodies) faster so take hold of a handful of bite sized goodies and go down on the floor.
3. Take the goody up above the dog’s head; he will sniff the food and go behind it with his nose. This act will require him to sit - or backup, but seemingly we are hopeful for the sitting action.
4. The solution to the teaching is to give the reward at the exact second the dog sits, but you have got to also give the order at that instant as well so that he links instruction with action. Therefore when your dog sits, you should say “sit”, and then giving him the goody.
5. Shower praise on your dog – demonstrate enjoyment in your voice; this will in fact make him act in response.
6. Go over three to four times at each sitting but no more than that. Dog Training should be pleasant and not a boring odd job, so don't go over the top with it in one sitting. You may have more than a few sittings all during the day.
When you use up the time to teach your dog, you get much more than just a dog that does a number of behaviors. He is eager to do things with you. He grasps to pay attention when you pronounce his name. He gets accustomed to being with you and doing things on your command. Through refined training your attitude as a person in charge is made stronger. You ought to arrange to use up some time every day on working his “tricks”. This sort of recurring reinforcement will help him to keep in mind and in addition create the bond between you and him.
