Effective Ways Battle Candida Infection

by Sarah Rhodes

If you have ever had a yeast infection you know that it itches, it is or can be a rash, red or white in color, depending on where it is on the body, there is also pain in urination, discharge and sometimes an odor. It does not depend on your age, or gender whether you get yeast infections or not and the symptoms for all are generally similar. The interesting thing here is that there are so many symptoms that usually are not considered related.

Candida is quickly becoming one of the most controversial health topics of our time. Most conventional doctors dont believe the ailment even exists since there are such a myriad of symptoms associated with the disease, but those that do believe tend to do so passionately. There has never been any sort of ironclad study done on the ability for a woman who suffers from Candida to conceive, the much more common yeast infection form of Candida is thought to interfere in a womans body chemistry enough as to stop any possible conception.

The commonplace remedies are anti fungal creams and prescription pills. The experienced women who are aware of the shortcomings of such creams and pills depend upon home remedies that give reliable results that too without any side effects. These remedies are not only for cure of the infection, they prevent infection. Another disadvantage of the over the counter medications is when used regularly, they lose their effectiveness.

An abundance of candida may also cause vaginitis, commonly known as a yeast infection. Ordinary symptoms are vaginal itching, a white discharge, sensitive skin at the vaginal opening and pain during urination or intercourse. This condition is especially common in women who are pregnant or taking antibiotics. Women using contraceptives with a high estrogen level are also more susceptible to yeast infections. Because the same fungus that causes vaginal yeast infections is responsible for thrush, it may also be spread through oral sex.

Vaginal Yeast infection in women is very common. Yeasts or Candida fungus are minute organisms that live in small numbers on human body. Yeast infection occurs when the number of these organisms increases beyond a certain level. Typically, the acidity in the vagina keeps the level of yeast low. But with the drop in the acidity level due to various conditions like menstruation period, pregnancy, diabetes or birth control pills, yeast grows and causes the infection.

Yeast infections are not usually sexually transmitted. Although many women get a yeast infection without any noticeable cause, it can be triggered by anything that changes the natural balance of micro-organisms in the vagina, such as taking antibiotic medication.

One thing that is rarely taken into account on lasting yeast infections is the fact that yeast is significantly influenced by the vaginas natural monthly fluctuating acid base (PH balance). The pH balance changes with monthly hormonal rhythms. Most women with yeast infections that last for months notice that the symptoms manifest or worsen a few days prior to the onset of menstruation and often clear up or improve when the period ends. Just prior to menstruation and throughout the time of the menstrual flow, the vaginal pH balance becomes significantly more alkaline, allowing yeast colonies that have been in a dormant state to become active and produce symptoms.
