5 Summer Festivals in the UK

by Tamara Jacobs

Why is summer loved by so many people around the world? Because sunshine and good weather permit many fun things to happen. You can eat outside, sleep outside and enjoy outdoor festivals all season long. Of course, while the audience might not mind blazing sunshine or a bit of rain while they're rocking out to their favourite bands, the band members themselves probably will, which is why they and their stages must be covered.

Of course, events that are more festivals than concerts will have their audience also in need of some coverage, as most people don't like to sleep out in the open air. Festival-goers should prepare themselves with tents, hats, blankets, and rain boots.

5 Summer festivals in the UK:

1. The Secret Garden party is an annual event that allows guests the opportunity to "connect to their creative powers, explore their wildest fantasies and meet thousands of people…It is a gathering that exists for only four days - away from cities and schedules, brands and boundaries… it is a festival of the arts, where everyone is the artist."

2. Field Day is a festival that brings together pioneering artists from around the world to create an unforgettable experience in the realm of alternative music.

3. Glastonbury festival has taken place every year since the day after Jimi Hendrix died in 1970. It is the largest Greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world. Glastonbury takes place on 900 acres in the Vale of Avalon. The aim of the Glastonbury Festival is to encourage and stimulate youth culture from around the world in all its forms.

4. Notting Hill Carnival takes place on the August Bank Holiday weekend every year. The festival takes up twenty miles of London's west end, and includes 40 static sound systems, hundreds of Caribbean food stalls and about 1 million people.

5. Lovebox is held every year in London's oldest park bordering Bethnal Green, Hackney and Bow. It is an urban event at its best, with an incredible and new age line-up of artists, food, drink and ambiance and it all takes place in one of the world's best and biggest cities.

Festivals are wonderful for the communities they attract. Fans of music and the arts can escape reality for a few days, camp out, meet one another and see their favourite bands perform in front of an audience of thousands. Whether you're in the band or camping out while you wait for them, you'll want shade, coverage and some amount of comfort.
