Stress-Free Travel? Yes, It's Possible!

If you want to become an expert traveler, or even just make sure your future trips all go smoothly and efficiently, there are plenty of ways to transform any travel experience from a merely acceptable one to a great one. Read the below tips to find out how to make your trips effortless and enjoyable.

If you're traveling to a foreign country, look into hiring a guide that speaks English to take you around the city. For about $15-20 a day, you can get a local that speaks English well to show you all the must sees, help you navigate the area, and even just help you with things like ordering food or reading signs.

Before purchasing a package deal for travel, check out the prices of the individual components. In many cases, the package deals are cheaper than buying the pieces separately, but not always. It never hurts to check out pricing for yourself before becoming locked in to purchasing the whole package, and you might discover there's a part of the package you don't want, such as meals.

To keep your car neat during a long road trip, always carry two bags. Use one bag to store regular waste and another to store recycling. Empty the bags at stops, and replace them if the bags start to get dirty. This will keep waste from piling up in your car, letting it stay clean through a long journey.

If you and a group of family or friends are traveling by car, bring a walkie talkie wherever you go. Cell phones need to have a cell tower in order to work properly. Walkie talkies only need each other, making them more beneficial than the phones when you are traveling in rural areas that might not have cell phone coverage.

Double check your reservations. It may seem obvious, but there have been many cases where reservations suddenly disappeared from the databases, leaving you and your family with no place to stay. To prevent this from occurring, check with your hotel several times throughout the process to make sure that your reservation is still right where it should be.

Bring some extra zip top plastic bags in your luggage. They are useful for keeping wet or muddy items away from the rest of your luggage, for storage of toiletries that could spring a leak, or for sitting on a dirty park bench. They take up almost no room and can save you from discomfort later.

Traveling abroad? Make sure to pack a passport holder! These nifty devices are slim, discreet, and very useful to protect yourself against pickpockets. You can slip your passport and money into the small pouch, and wear it under a sweatshirt or t-shirt so no one is able to get to it on the street. American passports are worth a lot of money on the black market in many other countries, so better to be safe than sorry!

Make good travel plans and leave a copy of this itinerary with a friend or family member at home. You do not need to plan out every minute of your time away, but you should have a rough idea of what you will be doing and when. List any flights, tours, hotel reservations, and reservations for dinners or shows.

When deciding to travel by car with children, have a portable DVD player or an built-in DVD player in your vehicle. This can make a really long trip appear much shorter to them and it can keep them distracted so that they don't start misbehaving because they become bored or impatient.

If you are trying out a new restaurant during your travels, watch how the other patrons act. They can give you clues as to how to eat unusual dishes or which condiments to use on your food. This is particularly helpful when eating overseas, where the food is probably very different from what you are used to.

Now that you're equipped with all the tips in this article, you will have much less confusion while planning exciting trips. Fellow travelers will admire your resourcefulness as you demonstrate your awareness of any obstacles and then deftly conquer them. Applying these tips to your journeys will result in a relaxing, worry-free escape.
