Beyond Bland

Fish, chicken and beef choices may clutter your mind when you are thinking about the catering for your wedding reception. Just the thought or trying to make everyone happy with full stomachs can be overwhelming. Food can be an important aspect of any wedding reception. Whatever you decide to serve will be critiqued with absolute scrutiny, so make sure of your choices. There are many options and choices to consider when planning the food for your reception.

Often times your entire wedding will be scheduled around meal times and whether you are deciding to serve a full meal or not. I think that most couples would prefer to serve a full course sit-down meal, but for many of us this just simply is not an option. If it either isn't something that you want or prefer then be sure to make your wedding and reception time fall in between major meals. Finger foods are a great option to assure that guests won't leave prematurely because they are starving.

Depending on where you choose to hold your reception they may have a caterer that they work with on a regular basis. If they don't, ask around or get quotes from your favorite restaurant. You don't have to be stuck with the boring fish, chicken and beef with vegetable meal choices. This isn't to say that you can't execute the traditional fish, chicken and beef in a pleasing way. You can choose to personalize your wedding by choosing ethnic or regional foods. If there are family recipes that you adore you might be able to enlist some family help or pass the recipes to volunteers.

Though you don't want to be totally concerned with what your guests are thinking you do want them to enjoy their time and share in your enjoyment of the day. Pick food choices that please you and your partner. Think about others, but don't let it compromise what the two of you really want. If you are at a loss of what to do, try doing your own miniature survey by asking a few family and friends what they like.

Presentation plays a major role in the opinions and even tastes of foods. Keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold. Flatware and silverware will also help to set the tone for the type of wedding you want. Having a gourmet meal on paper ware just wouldn't taste as good as if it were on a plate. (Yes it would, but this is the perception!) You may be able to turn it around a little and serve a cheaper meal in a gourmet fashion in order to save money and be tasty.

The key is to make sure your guests are happy so they stick around and celebrate. Pick food that you genuinely like and that shows who you are as a couple. You can add personal touches as wanted. Pick your favorites and leave some options open for others. Don't worry about allergies and dislikes; it is impossible to please everyone all at the same time. In this case please you and your fiancé and you can't go wrong. It is your day after all so; eat what you want to eat.
