Artists Use Website To Display Their Work

by Casey Trillbar

Artists of all skill levels are looking for ways to display their work in the hopes of getting noticed and making it big as a successful artist. With global use of the Internet growing everyday, artists are turning to websites to create a virtual portfolio to increase their exposure. Artists have the choice of either posting their work to a website already dedicated to exhibiting artists work or creating their own personal website to feature their work. Depending on the type of artistic works to be displayed, there are a number of ways to exhibit artwork on a website.

With a little research artists can find websites that allow them to post samples of their artwork to be displayed and exhibited on the Internet. Many of these websites are categorized by art types and even some are solely dedicated to a specific art form ranging anywhere from sculptures to computer generated graphics. Artists often choose this method as it requires little knowledge of website design and requires little to no monetary investments.

For the artists simply wanting to be featured on their own and have the flexibility of how their work is displayed, building a website is the option for them. Creating their own website adds to their creativity, giving them the flexibility to design it which often further reflects their artistic style. It also gives them the flexibility to create the website that will attract and appease potential buyers or employers who may be interested in their work.

Flexibility is the main advantage to building a website to display artistic work. There are different ways to feature and exhibit artwork using some of the latest technology. One popular method is the virtual showroom. Artists are able to display their artwork in a manner that simulates a live exhibition. Viewers can immerse themselves in the beauty of the art piece all from the comfort of their home or office. The use of 3D imaging video can further enhance the viewing experience allowing the viewer to see the piece from different angles. While virtual showrooms are a great way to exhibit artwork it does have one major drawback. Many artists will agree that the full beauty of their work cannot be fully appreciated from pictures and video. Pictures and video often cannot portray the intricate details of an art piece that can easily be seen and appreciated when looking at the piece live. However, the website can peak the interest of the viewer and motivate them to want to see the piece at a live exhibition where they may not have otherwise attended.

Artist looking to get noticed and exhibition their artwork have leaned towards websites to feature their work. Artists can use websites that accept artists for exhibition or they can opt to create their own. While websites are a good way to get recognized globally it does have the drawback of taking away the live interaction with an art piece. This can motivate viewers to see the artwork at a live art show where it can be fully appreciated.
