The Access Control Systems Place In Current Society
Most often when you hear a security company mention access control systems they're referring to security measures that are either magnetic or in some way computerized ports of entry. Often these methods can even be implemented to completely eradicate access to a certain location except for specific times and by certain people. Then there are a few relatively common types that you've probably implemented before.
Chances are that at some time you've come in contact with something that would be considered access control. The magnetic key cards that have pretty much taken over all traditional key locks at hotels are a common example. The cardkey has no specific room that it belongs to, it is instead authorized to unlock a specific door, for a given amount of time and then deactivated. After the code expires, another code will be required for entry. They aren't exclusive to an individual lock, the way other keys were. If a magnetic key is lost, its access can be invalidated. In the past, lost keys were huge security issues. This is what makes the magnetic and computerized systems so much more popular, they are more secure and simpler to replace.
The remote keyless entry systems that come with most modern cars are another example of a common and simple type of access system. Simple as it might seem, it took years to come up with these electrically controlled devices for opening car doors from a distance. Some higher class models of new cars are even beginning to come with an option for cranking one's car from a distance so that it can be set to a particular climate before the user enters the vehicle, or given time for the engine to warm up ahead of the driver's presence.
Those are just simple, common uses of ACS; there are more complicated versions of this prototype as well. Many corporations use highly evolved styles of these systems to increase the level of security in specific areas of business. You'll also discover that some modern homes, with advanced security system settings, require special credentials for access.
Access control systems are becoming more and more prevalent each day. At some point they will most likely overtake traditional lock and key devices when it comes to access both in and out of the home. Chances are that they will also become more advanced, with retina scanners and fingerprint readers already in use in some highly restricted areas.
