2008 Snowboard Reviews

Good Wood Awards Released

by Justin Biggs

Transworld Snowboarding has released their 2008 Good Wood awards!

Each year, Transworld takes the most popular freestyle snowboards (over 150 this year!) in the world and puts them through their paces. This year, Copper Mountain in Colorado was the destination and both a park and an all new pipe test were performed. With 23 testers in total, including pipe specific riders, the results were outstanding! The park test consists of over 2,000 vertical feet on the American Flyer run at Copper. American Flyer features wide groomers, boxes, two pocket parks, a massive kicker and a transition filled terrain park.

Each board is scored at the end of each run with marks given for categories like pop, stability, flex, buttering, rail-performance, turning and more (22 total categories). The numbers are then crunched and the top boards for both pipe and park are announced.

The end result? 25 snowboards spread out over 3 different categories: top 5 pipe boards, top park boards over $400 and top park boards under $400. There are several usual suspects in the list including the Burton T6 and the GNU Danny Kass. There are also some new boards on the list, including the Flow Quantum and Nitro Eero.
