6 Steps to Better Health

Get Healthy Now

Get Healthy NOW, In Spite of America’s “Health” Care System By Dr. Len Schwartz Len Schwartz suffered from severe tonsillitis as a teenager. Schwartz explains, "I had tonsillitis every other week for years.

It was like swallowing sharp glass 4000 times a day and there was tremendous pain. I was also given at least 25 - 30 prescriptions for an antibiotic each year for the condition." Then one day one of his friends who was attending chiropractic school told Schwartz about how spinal adjustments help the body function better and how it may help him. Schwartz was so intrigued with this form of health care that he decided to become a chiropractor.

Upon entering chiropractic school, he immediately got under the care of a chiropractor.

After just a few weeks of chiropractic care the tonsillitis and the pain were no longer a problem in his life. Today, Schwartz, 36, spends his time educating the public on the benefits of chiropractic care, healthy, drug-free, self-empowering lifestyle choices, and destroying myths about non-traditional health care.

There has been a tremendous amount of attention about the downward spiral of our nation’s health care system – specifically the medical profession. The shocking number of deaths and injuries caused by a system that is regarded as the finest in the world is staggering.

Most people read or hear these statistics and simply won’t believe it’s true. Why do I say this? In spite of the fact that so much media attention is devoted to alerting and educating the public about the dangers of the practice of medicine, doctors are still regarded as “fix-it-all” gods.

“According an extremely comprehensive and well-documented report (30 pages, including about 160 documented references with three MDs & 2 PhD researchers as authors) March, 2004 Life Extension Magazine, Conventional Medicine is now the #1 cause of death, followed by heart disease & cancer (stroke must be #4 now?).”¹

According to the authors of Death by Medicine (Gary Null, PhD; Carolyn Dean MD, ND; Martin Feldman, MD; Debora Rasio, MD; and Dorothy Smith, PhD), “Over 700,000 Americans die each year at the hands of government-sanctioned medicine, while the FDA and other government agencies pretend to protect the public by harassing those who offer safe alternatives.”

The medical profession says that “alternative” doctors (in other words, doctors who don’t practice medicine) aren’t safe, scientific, or effective.

Before getting into all of the amazingly safe and effective ways to take control of your health, and get and stay healthy, here are some facts about healthcare in America.

Did you know:

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (Vol. 284), in hospitals more than 250,000 people will die per year from iatrogenic causes. Amazingly, this number has gone up 236% since 1994. (Iatrogenic is defined as induced in a patient by a physician's activity, manner, or therapy. Used especially of a complication of treatment).

Each year approximately 2.2 million US hospital patients experience adverse drug reactions (ADRs) to prescribed medications.

In 1995, Dr. Richard Besser of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated the number of unnecessary antibiotics prescribed annually for viral infections to be 20 million; in 2003, Dr. Besser spoke in terms of tens of millions of unnecessary antibiotics prescribed annually.

Approximately 7.5 million unnecessary medical and surgical procedures are performed annually in the US, while approximately 8.9 million Americans are hospitalized unnecessarily.²

An article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) written by Dr. Barbara Starfield of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health describes how the US health care system may contribute to poor health.

Dr. Starfield writes:

12,000 (deaths per year) -- unnecessary surgery 7,000 (deaths per year) -- medication errors in hospitals 20,000 (deaths per year) -- other errors in hospitals 80,000 (deaths per year) -- infections in hospitals 106,000 (deaths per year) -- non-error, negative effects of drugs

These total to 250,000 deaths per year from iatrogenic causes!!³ Most would say that our health care system is the most high tech system in the world. That would ultimately lead one to believe that we must be the healthiest country in the world.

In Dr. Starfield’s article, she also documented where the Americans rate compared to the rest of the world. “Of 13 countries in a recent comparison, the United States ranks an average of 12th (second from the bottom) for 16 available health indicators. More specifically, the ranking of the US on several indicators was:

· 13th (last) for low-birth-weight percentages · 13th for neonatal mortality and infant mortality overall · 11th for post-neonatal mortality · 13th for years of potential life lost (excluding external causes) · 11th for life expectancy at 1 year for females, 12th for males · 10th for life expectancy at 15 years for females, 12th for males · 10th for life expectancy at 40 years for females, 9th for males · 7th for life expectancy at 65 years for females, 7th for males · 3rd for life expectancy at 80 years for females, 3rd for males · 10th for age-adjusted mortality

The poor performance of the US was recently confirmed by a World Health Organization study, which used different data and ranked the United States as 15th among 25 industrialized countries.” 4

In American Family Physician (Volume 56, Number 7, November 1997), EILEEN G. HOLLAND, PHARM.D., and FRANK V. DEGRUY, M.D. of the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, Mobile, Alabama report that, “Recent estimates suggest that each year more than 1 million patients are injured while in the hospital and approximately 180,000 die because of these injuries. Furthermore, drug-related morbidity and mortality are common and are estimated to cost more than $136 billion a year.”

Here is the dilemma. We need medical doctors, drugs and surgeons. We just can’t depend on them to get us AND keep us healthy. Everyone knows that most drugs mask or cover up symptoms.

They never “fix” or correct the cause of the actual health problem - even medical doctors would admit to that. So if (for the apparent safety, future, and health of Americans) we limit the practice of medicine to emergency or life-threatening situations, where do you turn for good “health” care?

How do you take control of your health so you don’t have to depend on drugs and/or surgery for your health needs? The answer requires a mental paradigm shift and one that will ultimately lead to your maximum health, function and well-being.

“Care, not treatment, is the answer. Drugs, surgery and hospitals are rarely the answer to chronic health problems. Facilitating the God-given healing capacity that all of us have is the key. Improving the diet, exercise, and lifestyle are basic.”5

You must first understand that the body has a master control system. It is called the nervous system. According to Gray’s Anatomy, 29th edition, p.4, “Every function of the human body is under the control of the nervous system.

Its function is to coordinate all the other organs and structures and to relate the individual to his environment.” The nervous system controls every action and reaction in the body. The brain is the master control center.

Your brain sends (and receives) all instructions to the body via the spinal cord. The spinal cord delivers the instructions from the brain to the body via the spinal nerves.

The spinal nerves leave the spine and go out and connect to every muscle, organ, gland and cell in the body. It is the finest electrical system in the world.

Since we know this is an anatomical fact, one can deduce that any interference to the nervous system (brain, spine and spinal nerves) will hinder or interfere with the body’s ability to function properly.

Why? Because if the brain is unable to send (and receive) all of the instructions to (and from) the body, the body and ALL of its systems cannot function at their maximum potential. This nervous system “interference” could easily produce pain, tingling, numbness, burning, pins and needles, weakness, and of course organ, muscle, gland and (other) system dys-function.

So at the most basic level, in order to give your body the chance to obtain and maintain maximum health and function, you need to make sure that your body is clear of nervous system interference.

In the absence of drugs/medicines, obstruction or trauma to the brain, the only other primary place in the body that can suffer nervous system interference is the spine and spinal nerves.

Nervous system interference at the spine can happen in one of only a few ways:

Misaligned (subluxated) vertebrae Bulging, herniated, or other disc pathology Arthritic degeneration (bone spurs, bone thickening, etc.) Severe trauma (spinal cord injury)

A misaligned vertebra, also known as a vertebral subluxation, ultimately interferes with the spinal nerve(s) that extends off the spine and goes out to a specific muscle, organ, gland or cell.

Disc pathology and arthritic degeneration can also be the direct result of misaligned vertebrae. During this process the disc between the vertebrae is "torqued" because of the misaligned vertebrae and will also suffer degenerative or pathological (bulging, herniated, etc.) changes.

Here is the good news. The only doctors in the world that are specifically trained to locate, analyze and correct nervous system interference (from vertebral subluxations and other joints) are chiropractors.

A chiropractor’s job is to make sure that your nervous system is free of nerve interference so that your body can function at its maximum health potential.

Chiropractic care is not a panacea. In order to have maximum health, function and vitality, you must embrace all six pieces of the “health puzzle”:

You need to have a nervous system that is free of interference.

You must eat well for life - Eat live food, no chemicals, little sugar, limited dairy.

You must exercise for at least 30 minutes per day 3 – 4 days per week. Women who exercised for one hour to less than three hours a week had a risk of death from breast cancer that was about 20 percent lower than those who exercised less.7 You must get plenty of rest/sleep (this is when your body replenishes itself, recharges and gets ready for another day in your life).

Your body needs to rest and will breakdown if it doesn’t get enough sleep.

You must maintain a positive mental attitude. You simply cannot underestimate the power of emotional and spiritual harmony and how it relates to your overall health and well-being.

You must use drugs/surgery as a last resort. You should try everything else first.

As a society, we expect pain and health problems. We accept our bodies breaking down as we get older and consider the pain and health problems to be our body’s way of telling us we’re getting older.

What people don’t understand is that it takes time for a muscle, organ or gland to show the effects of functioning at only 40%. In this country, if we don’t have pain, we think we’re healthy.

And when we feel pain, we are instantly “sick”. We’ve been taught that “if it isn’t broke don’t fix it.” People still to this day don’t accept the fact that symptoms are the last “sign” your body gives you to tell you something is wrong, NOT the first.

By the time you feel the pain or symptom, it’s often too late to fix the cause of the problem. They say that the first sign you have problems with your heart is the actual heart attack itself, and “Only five percent of all sudden cardiac arrest victims survive.” 9 Prevention is the key.

Take control of your health, function and well-being forever. Release your dependence on drugs and surgery and take action - it’s as easy as following the advice above.
