Using a Mastermind Group for Meeting Goals

You may have heard the term, "Mastermind Group." This trend has sparked a lot of discussion on the internet.
What is a Mastermind Group? It turns out that the definition itself is the subject of a certain amount of internet debate.
Some people say that a Mastermind Group is defined as any group of people who share a common goal and have agreed to support each other in realizing that goal. Needless to say, that's a pretty broad definition! Some, however, would define a Mastermind Group even more loosely than that—for them it can be any kind of group who gather together regularly for some reason—to discuss politics or religion, for example.
As a coach, I am not a big fan of restrictive definitions. A group of people who meet regularly to learn how to invest money might call themselves a Mastermind Group, for example.! Who am I to say it doesn't meet the "criteria?" For years I have been the member of a very successful writer's group. We've never referred to ourselves as a Mastermind Group—but we meet religiously with the specific intent of having each group member's writing be the best it can be so that it can be sold. Few members in our group has been published at the beginning. Now we all have—and multiple times each!
My own personal belief about Mastermind Groups is this: when one mind works on a particular issue or problem together with another mind or minds, magic happens. There is something about collective consciousness that can't be easily explained.
Some of the magic that happens in a Mastermind Group can be defined in clear ways. If it is true that having support makes reaching goals easier. It is also true that just stating a goal out loud makes it seem immediately more possible than it does in the confines of one's own brain.
In my opinion, if six people have gathered with the specific goal of making each member's dreams come true, the combined energy is much greater than it could have been with just one or two people working on their own. The synergy that is created, as a result, might be ten times or more the energy of one;or maybe even more.
