Jack And His Kindle
When Jack died the whole town was shocked. They said he died with a Kindle in his hand and he was addicted to reading on it. Was this a good obsession or did it lead to his death?
This article tells the story of how one Kindle owners obsession confused a town and enthralled the world. You will learn how the Kindle has become the worlds most sought after entertainment device and is taking on the libraries at their own game.
Jack is 78 - his eyesight is not what it used to be and he is slightly deaf. His passion for reading had slid due to the strain it put on his eyes and that led him to lead a solemn and quite life with little stimulation other than the morbid news from the radio.
Lucky for Jack the radio did bring some important news via advertising and that was about a new product called a Kindle. Not really understanding he asked his housekeeper a favour - to do some research on the internet about this new electronic devkice that may give him his precious reading back.
Sarah, the housekeeper arrived the next day with a laptop that her son no longer used and a simple user pays internet connection. It was her gift to him. It was setup so he could both learn about the Kindle and also teach himself about the world of the internet. He took to it like a fish in a huge pond.
Using the bookmarks that had been created Jack researched and researched the world of eReaders. He learned why some were harder on the eyes than others and that some had loads of features that went beyond simply reading.
Excitement rose within him. He enjoyed the pastime of absorbing himself in a book. Reading took him to places that movies or TV never could. He could learn and be entertained. The best eReader to do this he was discovering was the Kindle.
The Kindle offered ease of use, the ability to make the text really large so he could read so much easier. Better still it was easy on the eyes with no backlighting - the Kindle was just like reading a real book.
It appeared the world had gone crazy over this device. There was so much written about it that he knew it would be what he wanted and needed.
Researching further he discovered that there were thousands and thousands of books available to download fast and easy. Many were free or only a few cents and the more expensive ones were often less than $10. This was a joy because on a pension money was tight.
Jack learned that his local library would soon be offering books he could borrow and read on his Kindle. Oh my, he was ready to burst with excitement. His boring little world was lighting up and he could hardly wait.
Then one night after exhausting all the researching Jack checked how much money he could afford to spend to buy this Kindle. For only $139 it was a good and inexpensive investment. Yes he could do it. So the next day when Sarah his cleaner arrived he had here help him buy it online.
2 days later Jack had his new toy in his hand.
6 months later Jacks Kindle boasted a total of 856 books. A library of books that were as precious as his Kindle. Many he had obtained free and others had been very very inexpensive.
The laptop now was only used to choose and download books. Whilst the technology for WIFI was there Jack was happy to download via his USB cable direct to his Kindle. It was fast and easy to understand and do.
Jack had an addiction. He had a Kindle. He had the ultimate reading device that when he was too tired to read it read to him, when he needed to learn something the book was there, when he wanted to be entertained the book was there.
Wherever Jack was there was his Kindle.
Jack was found with his Kindle in his hand. His Kindle had become his addiction, his friend and his entertainer. It was not a weapon but a friend that never failed and yes he died with a Kindle in his hand.
God rest his soul.
