Agility is as important to athletes as speed or stamina. Agility basically relates to the ability to change direction and speed without stumbling and compromising performance. Speed and agility training can really improve certain aspects of your game.

If you are a sports person then you would know the importance of agility. Agility is basically the ability to change directions without losing balance or speed. Speed and agility training is important for all the players no matter which sport they play. Athletes may possess speed but agility is the difference between a good athlete and the best one.

Many people think that strength is all they need if they want to achieve the highest standards. However, it is greatly essential for athletes to have the ability to react to situations in time and appropriately. Agility has many other benefits as well. This ability is good for players as they are better equipped to avoid injuries. What will happen if you lose your feet every time you try to run with speed? Speed and agility training involves various workouts that you can do to improve co-ordination among various parts of your body and can increase your speed gradually.

If you desire to train yourself to become more agile then running at different speeds is what you need to do. Head to a nearby track and do a few laps. You need to warm yourself up before you start running. Then, you can increase your speed and run for a prescribed distance. You follow this routine for 15 to 20 minutes. You can do this exercise with the help of your friends too. You can ask your friend to run in front of you and change speed. you will then have mimic their motion. Speed and agility training will require a lot of effort from your end and it will take time too to see some results.

Agility ladders are used for speed and agility training as well. You can do a lot with these ladders. First, you could lay the ladder on a horizontal surface, and make your way from one edge to another by jumping in between the rungs. You should perform this drill as fast you possible. An ordinary ladder used for this exercise can be potentially harmful. You need to go for ladders that are made from fabric.

One more thing that is employed by athletes is the ankle weights. Your ankles are at risk when you are doing speed drills. This is done to make ankles strong and less vulnerable to injury during speed and agility training. Weights are tied around the ankles and you are required to work against this weight to move. Players can improve speed through this exercise.

If you are going to train yourself in any sports, then it is essential for you to include agility enhancing equipment into your training gear. If you get better in terms of speed and foot movement, then your game will also improve. If your sport is football, then you will find it easy to take the ball away from any player, or dodge a defender. If your sport is tennis, then you will be able to move swiftly without losing ground. Speed and agility training will do wonders for you. and your game.
