by Benjamin Casanova

It is not enough that you pick the most recent design or the most popular kind of leather blazer in the market, you should also learn to tell each kind from another. There are different kinds of leather used in making a blazer. They are made in various color and styles too. We will define each type of leather in this article.

Leather is a type of material that is obtained from animal skin. It undergoes tanning to make it durable, and then it is toughened dried and dyed. With the help of newer dyeing technologies, almost all types of leather can be found in virtually every color you can think of (with a few exception of course).

Types of leather

Buckskin is a type of leather that conforms easily and it has a suave surface.

Chamois (pronounced as SHAM-wa or provincially as SHAM-ee) is another type of leather. It was originally obtained from a goat-like animal, the Alpine chamois. Today it is replaced by sheepskin. Chamois is noted for its superb suppleness, absorbency and dainty tan color.

Calfskin is obtained from the young cows. This hide is smooth but it can be made tougher to generate a diverse texture. The shades wherein it is usually made of are the dark hues of black and brown. Items made from calfskin are usually labeled as elegant and classy.

Cowhide comes from matured or full-grown cows. Since shoes, boots, and jackets are the most commonly used everyday clothing that need to withstand a lot of factors of wearing and tearing, it is the most common material used to make them. Cowhide is available in almost every color; however, the classic brown and black shades remain to be the most common ones.

Lizard skins, like Crocodile and alligator skins are more commonly used to create belts, luggage or shoes. This eye-catching material comes in vibrant colors of green and red and the deep shades of grey and brown, with a scabby consistency but pleasantly polished feel.

Pigskin is more frequently used in the Southern part of America. It possesses a tan color, has slight nap and has a smooth texture.

Ostrich are usually crated into belts and shoes. How it appears is usually like that of a plucked chicken skin and it can be with a ?goose bump? feature.

Suede is produced from split hide. It is appreciated for its softness but it is less durable than that of the full-grain animal skin. Articles made of suede can be easily dyed with a variety of colors.

Now that we have already defined the types of leather, it is also important to know that the price of a leather blazer depends on the kind of leather that it is made from, its design and as well as the cut. It can cost you a matter of dollars starting from $250 to a whopping $1000.

Leather blazers are readily available in different sizes- most men prefer to use long ones, while both long and short are agreeable for women.

To keep the quality of your leather blazers, it should be stored in a wide, durable, cushioned hanger to avoid deforming its form. The use of plastic cover is also a big no-no. Finally, to ensure that it does not get damaged by a washing process, it is wise that you send it for dry cleaning.
