Wow where would be without acronyms? For starters the online dating scene would shut down over night but I digress. The times they are changing (or so the song goes) and so it would appear is the face of Adult Personals.
Gone are adverts like the above where we obviously have someone desperate to find someone into sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll and also a good sense of humour. The last bit stood for Oil Fired Central Heating and was a joke but makes just as much sense as half of the acronyms in general usage today!
OK, back to the topic in hand. More and more of us find ourselves with limited time on our hands due to a whole plethora of pressures ranging from anti social work hours to finding ourselves in strange locations through work or college or a multitude of other reasons. Whatever the reason is, it doesn’t matter, the end result is the same, and the fastest growing socio economic grouping in the Western world today is that of the single person. Whether that person is single as a result of a marriage break-up, single by design and pressures of work or just single through not finding the right person, their proverbial soul mate yet matters not, the end result is the same.
Enter stage left the world of Free Online Dating. Now with the click of a mouse and from the safety of your own home, today’s sexy singles find it is possible to meet the person of your dreams or just maybe find some friends.
Whereas in the past, Desperately Seeking of Cincinnati had to arrange to meet, flowers in hand under the station clock (I’m going back a bit here but stay with me it’s a sign of old age) waiting for Miss Right to arrive. Nowadays entire “pre-relationship” conversation and correspondence can be arranged before hand that means that by and large by the time you actually get to meet your date, it is as if you have known them almost all of your adult life.
Online dating has become the number one way to meet people today and as has been mentioned before, now from the safety and security of your own home, it is possible to view and edit your way through peoples personal profiles and hopefully cut-out the awful and agonising embarrassment of finding out that “Tall Dark and Handsome” of Wisteria Lane is actually “Short Fat and Seedy” from the Lower East Side who unfortunately, has uncontrollable amnesia when it comes to his marriage and commitment.
I am not saying that Online Dating is the panacea to all of the problems of today’s singles but rather it makes ones social life a damn site easier when there are only so many hours in the day.
So much to do and so little time with which to do it in!
