Cover your career as a Yoga instructor

by Nacams Team

When you enrolled in classes to get licensed and certified as a yoga instructor, you likely knew you were entering a field where you get to make people feel better by making them feel better.

This is great news for the professional yoga instructor, as business should be humming right along, especially as one builds up a loyal client base and begins to get word of mouth referrals. However, before you get too far into your work as a yoga teacher, it is wise to stop and make sure your career is covered. In other words, make sure you have the right yoga insurance policy.

Depending on where you do your work as a yoga teacher, you may be required by law or by employer or both to secure yoga instructor liability insurance. Even if you are not required to get such a policy, doing so is a smart move for you and your business. The reasons are obvious—as a yoga teacher you need to be covered in case one of your clients has an accident at your place of work or otherwise finds a reason to claim damage or injury due to something that takes place during an appointment.

Such scenarios may sound far fetched, but they are only as far fetched as the car accidents that serve as the foundation for every driver possessing automobile insurance. If you think about the tools you use in your work as a yoga teacher, you should see that there is a chance—even if its quite slim—of damage or injury occurring.

With the right yoga teacher insurance policy, you will not need to worry about such “what ifs.” You will have a safety net in place to protect you and your business in case any unexpected events take place.

For instance, if a client slips and falls and suffers a knee injury when getting up from a foot soak, that client might decide to sue you for the injury and damages. With yoga instructor liability insurance, you will have general liability coverage, which was developed specifically for such accidents. That is why general liability coverage often is called “slip and fall” insurance.

You will have several other specific aspects of protection when you secure the right yoga liability insurance policy, including product liability insurance. This part of your coverage will be there to protect you in case a client claims damage or injury due to a product that was used during session.

Your yoga teacher liability insurance should include professional liability insurance as well, which will offer coverage against any client claims of damage or injury due to lack of skill or competence on your part as a yoga instructor.

Get a solid yoga liability insurance policy, and get your safety net in place. For a fee of less than a couple hundred dollars per year, you can attain a peace of mind that is priceless.
