Is This Subtle Mindset State Keeping You Stuck?

by Andy Grant

Since the release of the movie "The Secret," more and more people are setting goals and visualizing the achievement of their goals. Unfortunately, not everyone is seeing rapid results, and in many cases, this is due to a subtle mindset state.

The question to ask yourself is simple: am I visualizing my goal as having already occurred right now, or as having nearly occurred at some point in the future?

Often times, folks use affirmations like "money is on its way to me now" or "I'm getting closer and closer to achieving my goal."

You might consider that these are truly not helpful statements, because they are holding your goal (or money, or some other specific result) at arm's length. While it's certainly not as detrimental as using language like "someday" or "soon" or "I can't wait until," it's still dangling that carrot just beyond reach, instead of perceiving the goal as already true NOW.

Notice the differences:

Junior, please come here.

Junior, come here now.

See the difference? There is a vast amount of power in "now" that simply doesn't exist in the near future.

Let's look at a specific goal-related example.

Suppose your goal is to get a hot tub. If you're focused on earning the money to get the hot tub, you're truly missing the easiest path from A to B. Instead of focusing on earning more money in order to buy a hot tub, imagine you are IN your hot tub right now. See which one feels better?

There are all sorts of ways to get into this NOW energy.

Using our same hot tub example, you could:

+ Shop for hot tubs now, not as though you are window shopping, but as though you intend to find the one you want and buy it now.

+ Sit in the hot tub at the showroom, take measurements, get brochures, take pictures (preferably with you in the photo), and do it all with a "it's mine now" mindset.

+ Decide where on your property you will put the hot tub, and stake off that area.

+ Find out whether or not you will need to have slab poured, or a deck built, and if so, start calling contractors and getting estimates. Don't wait on this -- do it now.

+ Find out whether you need permits or permissions from your HOA, community covenant, or other local organization, and if so, begin the paperwork now.

+ Buy a new swimsuit, new towels, robes, plasticware, or whatever accessories you know you will need while using your hot tub. But the required chemicals (once you know which model you're getting).

+ Any time you use a hot tub, close your eyes and imagine you are in your hot tub now. Tie the sensory experience of being in a hot tub to the "it's mine now" mindset of ownership.

You will probably think of more examples, but look at all the ways you can prepare for having your hot tub NOW. Even if right at this moment you can't yet afford the hot tub, do not give one ounce of energy to that -- instead, focus on what you can do. Pouring slab is not expensive (neither is a good beach towel). Do whatever you can NOW.

All of these actions will build your confidence, keep you focused on the now, erase doubt, create belief, and assist the Universe in bringing your request to you in the most expedited manner possible.

Don't believe me? Try it and see for yourself. How about now?
