Simple walk through on getting rid of Spyware and Viruses
After being on the internet a while especially if you only use the computer and the internet to get things done and either don’t know or don’t care how it all works you will probably start to find that your computer is taking longer to start, is just freezing up every so often and popups are coming up even when you’re not looking at any WebPages. If this is happening to you then it’s probably because you have Spyware and maybe Viruses to go with. Here is a simple guide to follow to get rid of them.First of all we need to start the computer with as close to nothing running in the background as possible.Click “Start”, “Run” and type in this box “msconfig” (without the speech marks) On this screen click on the “Services” tab then place a tick in “Hide all Microsoft Services” this will show a list of things starting with your computer (you will probably find programs like your antivirus etc in here). Remove all of the ticks in the white box and make a note if there are any without ticks already as these won’t need to be ticked late. Now goto the “Start Up” tab and remove any ticks in here again making a note of any that aren’t already ticked. Then press “Apply” and “Ok”This will bring up a message box asking you to restart your computer click “Reboot Now”Your computer should now restart and when Windows comes back up you will have another message box letting you know that you have made changes place a tick in the box and press “Ok”Windows should have loaded quicker than usual and the icons that are usually in the system tray (next to the clock in the bottom right) should be gone, don’t worry this is what we wanted.Ok now we have windows started and all the background programs out of the way we will run our first scan. The first scan will be done using a free online service which will scan for all kinds of infections at the same time. Goto the website below and follow it through it will take a few hours so there’s no need to watch it just go enjoy the sun for a while or do the jobs you’ve been meaning to get done.http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ (click “Scan Now its Free”)Once this has done and any infections have been removed it is a good idea to run your own antivirus if you don’t have one I would recommend AVG Free Edition you can download it from http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5Before you run a scan with your own antivirus software make sure you have updated it first. After this scan has been completed its time to make sure no Spyware has gotten through. I would recommend using at least two different programs (Spybot and Microsoft defender) to make sure there is nothing already on your computer and to keep it safe. Spyware and Virus writers are getting smarter all of the time and finding new ways to infect your computer and to bypass all your security for this reason I would now suggest turning off Windows Restore restarting your computer and then going through all the steps again. After you have done this turn System restore back on and create a new restore point. To disable system restore go to;"Start" " All programs" "Accessories" " System Tools" "System Restore".Ok so you have ran all the test twice and all that’s left is to get those programs back that you are missing.Click “Start”, “Run” and type in this box “msconfig” (without the speech marks) On the “Services” tab then place a tick in “Hide all Microsoft Services” again and place ticks back where they were. Then do the same again on the “Start Up” tab. Most of the things that are starting with your computer you should find are not needed so if you don’t want Windows to start slowly again only place ticks in the important items like the antivirus.
