The Beauty Staple For Ancient Greeks And How You Can Utilize It

Some believe that the use of olive oil started with the Italians but in fact it started with the ancient Greeks. They loved the oil so much that it was used in every aspect of their lives including body care. They often toted this "liquid gold" for it's moisturizing benefits and would use it as a natural sunscreen.
Like the Egyptians, they used salt scrubs to exfoliate their skin however, they added olive oil to their mix for it's beauty-enhancing benefits. The Greeks also loved herbal infusions--herbs seeped in olive oil or vinegar and then used in various beauty capacities.
In ancient times, chemical free body care was used extensively, because it worked. All they needed was all around them, naturally, and that truth still remains for us all today.
Olive oil skin benefits: olive oil is anti-aging and will help to maintain youthful looking skin. It also eliminates free radicals that cause the skin to age. This oil is also used to sooth discomfort associated with skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.
HOW: if you've never used olive oil in your anti-aging body care regimen, start by obtaining quality extra virgin olive oil. Use a small amount as a body moisturizer. A little goes a long way and it will deeply penetrate and moisturize your skin.
Olive oil also works well as a natural hair conditioner. Place slightly warmed olive oil in your hair (not too hot) cover with a plastic cap for 45 minutes then rinse and condition as usual.
Natural plant-based body care vs. traditional chemical-laden products:
Natural body care is a powerful tool if you choose to use it. Sometimes, the most simple plant-based ingredients are all we need to resolve many of the skin issues we incur.
Plant-based ingredients contain antioxidants, vitamins and other nutrients that make them a powerful non-toxic way to obtain and maintain healthy, beautiful skin and have been used by ancient cultures for thousands of years--because they work.
Why are so many body care products plagued by un-natural chemicals?
The cosmetics industry as a whole has very little regulation. This means, they can use almost any chemical, toxic or not, just as long as they are not in large amounts and will purposely harm consumers after a few uses--this is why the long-term use of these products is a concern for many people. These chemicals--such as sulfates and parabens--preserve the product and create the lather, consistency, coloring and fragrance that consumers have come to expect--they're also cheaper than plant based alternatives.
