Make Your Sound Heard With The Right Guitar Amp Speakers

by Nadine Davis

The loud speaker will contribute to the tone of your guitar. Early guitar amps had no tweeters fitted and only cone loudspeakers. Because of this the frequency dropped above 3-4 kHz and a few of the harmonics caused by tube distortion were filtered out. Today manufacturers understand the workings better through knowledge and experience and know why speakers back in the day sounded the way they did. New models now offer specific voicings thanks to the skill of their design. Depending on the type of playing you do, whether it is in a garage or in clubs for example, and what you want your sound to be will govern the type of guitar amp speaker you choose.

Different speakers, different sounds. -

The cone and magnetic motor design will govern the sound of a guitar amp speaker. Twelve inch speakers are a clear choice when using four driver cabinets and combos. For a sound that is less bassy, a 10 inch speaker is the way to go.Smaller practice amps and speakers are great for a good sound when recording, however this may be at the risk of your bass end. It may suffer without being used without larger speakers. What is known as the break-up is the way a speakers cone flexes when you push it hard. Don't panic, there is no harm being caused to your speaker. A more compressed, distorted sound will come from thinner, lighter cones as these have a tendency to break up more swiftly. The centre dust cap in a speaker can make you sound vary as well, a harder treble sound will come from speakers with a metal dust cap rather than speakers using fabric.

The lower you go. -

The quality of the way low frequencies are handled is dependent on how well the cone assembly is damped. How the cone assembly is damped relies on the surround and the cone material. Your bass can have a tendency to sound loose is the cone overshoots; if your speaker is damped well you will get a tighter sound from your bass. There is a lot on offer with such brands as Artec, Behringer, Bugera, Laney and Marshall. It will be easy to find your own distinct sound with the guitar amp speaker that suits your needs the best. Compared to earlier speakers, today's speakers are very efficient.. It is easier to get high amplifier power to create the sound you need.

When purchasing a bass amp, you should do a little research and evaluation. The sound you want will not be solely decided by the magnet that is used. The cone and the magnetic motor design also come into play. Prepare to play your best and discuss your options with an expert.
