Acuvue Oasys- A Clear And Comfortable Contact Lens

by Steven Hutt

In the world of contact lenses, the consumer has many different brand and styles to choose from. The features of these contact lenses are copious and can be confusing, and their prices can range from a few dollars a box to over one hundred dollars a box. With such a variety in choices, benefits, and prices ranges, it can be difficult for the consumer to understand the differences and choose the best contact lenses for them. The acuvue oasys contact lens is a thin, durable lens that provides comfort and optimal vision.

Contact lenses first came on to the market in 1949 with a device called the "corneal lens," which was a rigid and rather thick lens meant to correct the vision that could be worn for up to 16 hours a day. These lenses were difficult to insert and remove, and they were not very comfortable for the wearer. The rigid contact lens continued to dominate the scene until the 1960s, when Czech chemists Otto Wichterle and Drahoslav Lim developed a hydrogel material for various biological uses. This hydrogel material later developed into the first soft contact lens. Soft contact lenses soon became much more popular than hard contact lenses, as they were much easier to manipulate and insert, and required significantly less time for the wearer to become acclimated to the feel of the contact lens. This resulted in a longer, more comfortable wear, and a much more satisfied consumer, which lead to increased prescriptions and sales in contact lenses. Since then, this hydrogel material has been continuously evaluated and developed to improve the clarity, comfort, and wear of the soft contact lens.

Acuvue entered the contact lens market in the late 1980s. Originally founded by an optometrist, this company specialized in developing and improving soft contact lenses for comfort and optimal vision correction. This tradition of healthy comfort development continues today, with Acuvue offering a range of contact lenses in markets around the world, including one-day lenses and two-week lenses.

The Acuvue Oasys contact lens is a contact lens made of a silicone based hydrogel material. Acuvue advertises it as being a lens that stays cool and hydrated all day long. These contact lenses are often prescribed by optometrists to patients who have concerns of their other contact lenses being too inflexible or too dry throughout the day. These lenses offer UV protection for the eyes, and boast all-day comfort due to a specific additive called "Hydraclear Plus Technology." This feature allegedly embeds additional moisture in the contact lens while ensuring that each lens has a smooth finish to eliminate drying and discomfort while blinking. These lenses must be replaced every two weeks, or after six continuous nights of wear. Though not the least expensive contact lenses on the market, these lenses are reasonable priced, considering the level of vision precision, comfort, and quality that the wearer experiences when using them.
