Increasing Web Traffic by External Links

Increase Web Traffic With Free Links

by Matt Cromlento

Web traffic is of course the holy grail of every internet endeavor. Whether the goal of your site is to earn advertising money, to present information or entertainment, or to promote a cause, you want your site to be seen by as many people as possible. One way to increase web traffic is by advertising, but the costs involved in that can make it a fruitless effort. Fortunately, there are other ways of generating web traffic that cost little to no money.

One good way to quickly get free web traffic is to post comments on blogs that have subject matter of interest to readers of your site. Most commenting areas on blogs will give you an option to have your name link back to your site. Use a name that relates to your site. For example if you have a site on antique camera collecting, choose a user name something like "old camera collector" or "antique camera guy" instead of using your first name.

Don't abuse your postings on a site. If you comment when you have nothing interesting to say other than plugging your site, you can really turn people off. If you post too much about your site to increase web traffic, or spam blog, your result could backfire. People could develop a negative view of your site and avoid it. Only mention your site if you can work it into the topic of the postings. You do not want to turn off your target audience.

It will benefit you to do some networking online. Track down people with different sites that would bring in your target demographic then email the owners. Ask them for their rates for an online article, or just offer them the chance to write something for your blog or site.

Site owners, being quite flattered, may put you on their blog roll or even give you a link back from their site. By being asked to guest blogger post or even to write an article for their site will give you more exposure and free web traffic.

Never limit your online spectrum to only blogs or sites. Some of the most successful blogs have gotten their exposure in print media, such as a local newspaper or large magazines like Newsweek and Time. This recognition has led to vast amounts of hits. Even though they are an old form of media, many newspapers and magazines now have an online component.

Having your site mentioned in a large publication is probably the best way to increase web traffic. To make this happen you should determine the subjects which interest your readers, and find reporters who cover those subjects. Then you can send these reporters press releases. You can also send them letters telling them how much you enjoyed their articles and letting them know that you have a related site. It's possible that they will use quotes from your letters and website or even mention your site.
