Supplements for your Health & Beauty

by Chris lowe

Putting aside the need to fill t-shirts or knock off another all-important percent body fat through hard-training and muscle enhancing supplements, your health, if not your beauty, should be your main priority.

A person’s health and beauty is being highlighted and focused on by an increasingly self-conscious section of the public who are being educated and self-taught as to the importance of the right diet and fitness regime. The positive effects of an increasing range of supplements aimed at filling the gaps we miss, are the alternative to a media campaign on the dangers of obesity and the considered ‘bad diet’. This is especially relevant in modern times when people work harder, longer hours and are forced to place a balanced diet at the back of a long queue of responsibilities.

Where beauty is concerned, it is no longer considered a taboo subject for men to be equally concerned with the tone and health of their skin. It is now well-documented that the right diet has as much effect on your physical self as your physical appearance and through the right supplementation, you get the best out of what God gave you. The common pursuit for youthful, clear complexions has seen an explosion in the health and beauty market, of which supplements play a key role.

Alternatively, whichever sport you are dedicated to, if any at all, the overall health of a person determines so many important things from their ability to participate, to their recovery and growth. Your basic health should be the building blocks of your physical potential and as ever, supplementing the right diet with the best vitamins and nutrients your body needs can give you the edge in all forms of performance.

Here’s a list of just a few natural nutrients and supplements available to you and how they can have a positive effect on your health and beauty: Vitamins:

A – Great for the immune system

B – Vitamin B is intended to provide nutritive support for normal, healthy energy production, red blood cell synthesis, nerve tissue function, healthy protein metabolism and hormone synthesis as well as skin dryness problems and relaxation. This extends to promote healthy sleep patterns, a key ingredient to anyone’s health and beauty.

C - Helps protect against free-radicals and repair cell damage e.g. caused by smoking. Good all rounder – healthy bones, skin & teeth. It also helps strengthen collagen, a major connective protein.

D - Vitamin D (or the sunshine vitamin as it’s often referred to) is the only vitamin produced naturally by the human body, and technically classified as a hormone. Vitamin D affects a variety of target tissues including bone, intestine, muscle, brain, skin and immune system cells.

E - Vitamin E is a well researched and publicized antioxidant necessary in human nutrition. Antioxidants help combat free radicals and oxidants i.e. molecules which damage fats and cells. Specifically, Vitamin E is helpful in preventing oxidation of ldl cholesterol. Check out our great Vitamin range: Vitamins & Minerals Glucosamine:

A natural substance found in the bones and is good for the maintenance of joint cartilage. Check out our great Glucosamine range: Glucosamine Coenzyne Q-10

This nutrient plays an important role in the body’s production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the basic energy component of the cell. Flaxseed Oil:

Flaxseed Oil is one of nature’s richest sources of Omega-3 alpha linolenic acid (ALNA), an ‘essential fatty acids’ (EFAs). Flaxseed, rich in Omega-3, can benefit many areas of the body including your hair, nails, skin, as well as helping to lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure and prevent arthritis and cancers. One of the more important but less well-known supplements on the market, Flaxseed Oil has a reputation of being good for every cell in your body, as its anti-oxidant properties reduce the activity of cell-damaging free-radicals in your body. Essential fatty-acids like Omega-3 can be found in foods like fish and nuts but for several reasons, you may not get enough of these in your diet so supplementing is important. For the past 10-15 years the effects of Glutamine have been heavily researched and its use has been found to be particularly helpful in treating serious injury, illness, burns, trauma and cancer, thus plays a key role in a functioning immune system. Diets rich in Glutamine have been proven to maintain the gut-barrier function, intestinal cell proliferation and reduce systems of irritable bowl syndrome. Check out our great Glutamine range: Glutamine Calcium:

Calcium supplementation can reduce a person’s body fat by reducing the digestibility of fat.

Calcium is also extremely important in muscle building. This is because when calcium is not available to the body; it takes what’s needed from bone, causing loss over time. Adequate amounts of Calcium can counter this effect but many diets, especially those on high protein intake, do not get near enough calcium.

Higher calcium intake is also associated with a reduced risk of hypertension and Osteoporosis. Zinc:

A lack of Zinc can lead to slower healing abilities and can also result in particularly bad acne. Supplementing with Zinc can help your skin grow and regenerate and therefore keep its radiance and tone. Iodine:

Iodine can help proper functioning of the Thyroids. Supplementing with Iodine can result in the prevention of dry skin and hair and several other skin conditions. Potassium:

Help the skin regenerate and stay fresh and healthy. Magnesium:

Magnesium deficiency is quite common in the western world, especially amongst athletes, as physical activity depletes stores of Magnesium in the body. Over the long-term, Magnesium deficiencies can have a number of negative effects on a person’s overall health. Studies have also shown Magnesium has a positive impact on the heart and cardiovascular regions, and also helps prevents hypertension. It has also been used to treat migraines, insomnia and premature ejaculation.
