Tips On How To Choose A Table Tennis Table

by Dimi Nikilov

For those of us that may have a extra space in the home, whether in the loft or in the garage may be thinking of getting a table tennis table. Apart from the obvious other recreational choices like pool tables and the like, this is one of the more popular choices today. The trick is in choosing the right one without spending an arm and a leg.

First of all do not fall for brand names. Many things in the world today are priced higher than usual because you pay for the brand. The same thing can be said for buying a ping pong table. Do not fall for all the hype regarding this or that brand.

If you will be buying a one for the first time then you do not need to buy an expensive one. Try to go for the cheaper ones and let you and your family really wear it out. If the novelty does not wear off and everyone still likes to play it, then you can invest in a more expensive one.

Another deciding factor in what kind to buy will be whether it will be a permanent fixture or not. Decide if it will stay in one place for quite a while or it will need to be stowed away when not in use. This will further affect our decision whether you need to buy a folding model or not, or one that has coasters on the legs.

How thick you would want to have your new ping pong surface will affect the kind of model you buy and how much you will pay for it. Most attest that a thicker surface, of around 25mm thick gives a nice even bounce. However, most will say that one that is around 19mm thick for beginners should do the job nicely.

And of course the support that it has will have to be strong. The leg supports must be able to withstand years of use and should not be rickety or flimsy. Make sure that the table that you buy has nice sturdy legs that can take a lot of abuse.

Also as a final check on what you will buy, see that the finish on the surface is nice and even. A good finish will give you good balance and control in your games and also avoid injury. Any rough uneven edges on your ping pong surface can give you some nasty cuts.
