What Is A No Lose Bet?

by Barry Hornwhistle

There's a new kind of bookie promo on the market, and it's well worth taking some time to understand exactly what is meant by risk-free or "no-lose" betting. Some call it a "bookie refund", and it's so simple that you can just stake some money with zero risk, and walk away with that money if you lose.

There are only two bookies out there who can afford to offer this deal at the moment, but other bookmakers are taking notice and seeing the conversion rates. The advantage for the bookmaker is that they get more people coming to their online website, and therefore, more online footfall. Some of those will, of course, just pick up their refunds and go, but others will stick around, having perhaps won on their first bet, and are just playing with the winnings.

How does it work?

It's really pretty simple. A traditional free bet would mean that you place a bet on any single event, worth at least EVENS. Some bookmakers don't care about the odds, and others will force you to bet with at least 2/1 - so do look at the terms and conditions. You would then receive a free bet equivalent to the amount that you bet on your first bet. You would not receive the stake in your returns, should your free bet win.

In the "no lose" case, however, you can bet on any single event - dependent on the bookmaker, worth at least EVENS - and then if that bet loses, you get your cash back in your account, ready for you to withdraw.

Punters are loving this offer because it gives them an opportunity to test out a bookmaker before deciding if it's the bookie for them.

What are the disadvantages?

There aren't many disadvantages, to be honest. If you win your first bet, then you cannot take advantage of a free bet promotion, just like with the traditional free bet offers. However, as bookies are always on top in this game, it is obvious that many people have walked away with their stake on their first bet!

What are the alternatives?

If you find a "no lose" bet a little risk-free, then there are bookmakers that offer tempting bonuses - with interesting catches. a 50% bonus on your deposit could be worth up to £100 (depending on how much you deposit, of course), but you would have to bet upwards of 3 times your deposit to be able to withdraw any money used with your bonus money - and in some cases, fifteen times the amount of your deposit. This does not promote safe, sensible gambling, and it is something that I do not condone. This is why these no-lose, risk-free bets are by far the most sensible approach to bookmaker offers that I have seen.

So - if you're looking for a way into gambling - and a sensible, secure way, then try the risk-free bets and you will be taking no risk whatsover.
