THERMOMETER
Thermometers play a vital role in our domestic life. Thermometers are just not in the shape of thermometers but they are also available in many other ways: • oven • refrigerator • back yards • toasters • sandwich makers • iron All these things have thermometers or thermostats that measure the heat or the cold of the machinery. They tell the exact time at which to stop the oven or other electronic items. Basically the function is the same, i.e. to measure the temperature set at a specific level. The temperature of the body does not remain the same but changes according to the social conditions or the changes in the body. Some times the blood pressure goes low because of mal nutrition. Due to this reason the temperature of the body may also go down to a dangerous level. A thermometer is used to detect the changes in the temperature of the human body or any other substance. The temperature can be taken by a few different ways: oral One can only measure the temperature using a thermometer orally if the sick person is able to hold the thermometer in the best possible way to detect a correct reading. An unconscious person or a person with severe vomiting or cough cannot manage to take temperature by putting the thermometer in his mouth. Although times have changed and the latest technology takes only a few seconds to take the correct reading but the casual mercurial thermometer makes it difficult and dangerous to use. One needs to be careful with the temperature of the inside of the mouth as the temperature would be shown high if it is taken right after drinking any hot coffee or tea and it would be vice versa with cold things. Rectal It is a better choice for infants and babies. Rectal thermometer should be used by a thorough professional so that it does not cause pain or discomfort. With older people it might be felt shameful as the thermometer is to be inserted inside the rectum to note the reading. Ear The ear is also used to take temperature of the body. This kind of thermometer has an infrared system in it which notes the temperature in a matter of merely a few seconds. This kind of thermometer is a bit expensive for domestic use. This kind of a thermometer is used with infants as little kids do not bear the time to take temperature from other methods. temporal artery Temporal artery or the temple is also another way of noting the temperature of the body. This kind of thermometer has an infrared way taking the reading of the body temperature and it is quite accurate like the rectal thermometer. Forehead The forehead portrays the temperature of the body. The forehead thermometer is like a small tape of x-ray or picture developing material. It has the values written on it and a green mark shows the temperature marking of the body. This is not maybe very accurate but quite cheap.
