How to Look Intelligent in a Crowd
Face it, people think that they can judge a book by its cover! Advertisers know it, Salesmen use it, and actors depend on it to convey their character's part in a story.
Don't look all around as if your questioning everything, Look square in the eye of the speaker. Maybe bend your brow a little. If it is a recording or a rebroadcast look down with your ear cocked toward the sound. If you catch eye contact with someone, hold it for a second as if on purpose, then nod a small yes or agreement then glance away.
Now you've probably got a few eyes on you so don't say anything yet. Think of a good relevant question, then when the time is right, clearly state the question in a clear and concise voice. There may be no answer, but if it gets people thinking they will remember you, and not so much your question, as intelligent.
Always pause before you speak and make sure you know what you are going to say before you say it. If you make a mistake make sure everyone knows that you know you did and try to correct it, or ask if any one else can correct it. It will take the pressure off of you. Try this next time you are in a crowd and you have the chance. It works, and it could break the ice with that cute guy or girl over there! Good Luck!
