Land Rover Discovery Is A Practical Off Roader
First launched in 1989 this land rover has a mixture of ability, practicality and great off and on road drive. This car done well and got even better about 9 years down the line when a five cylinder diesel engine was made available. Then it went further in 2003 by launching the discovery 3. This was a leader the second it came out. With a great and powerful ride it was almost perfect. The design was beautiful with a strong and fully in control look about it and that is why the market fell in love with it. In 2009, despite it already being great it was made even better and out came the Discovery 4.
When we look at the exterior of the Discovery there is no denying that it is one of the cleverest looks that are around. With a bluff nose and a stab bonnet style not to mention the steeped roof and wrapped rear window style everything about it makes sure you do not forget it is a discovery. With integrated body frame there was more strength and with all this there is an excellent on road ability that has had no major complaint since its launch. Inside the cabin, high quality materials are used and the layout gives a classy and solid feel.
Just like with every car you get the good and the great and then there’s the not so good and not so great. With the discovery the not so great is how hefty the model is. At 2583kg we can’t pretend it’s anything but a very heavy vehicle. Back to the positive all of these models are fitted with air suspension and an electronic manager that adjusts shift pattern and ride hide and stability as well as throttle response according to what is needed. With many other gadgets fitted it seems that the land rover is providing things that most users will love to have but will probably never need. This however doesn’t raise any problems as it still gives the model a more expensive and impressive look and feel. In the latest update the discovery is just 17mm longer but this increase has done wonders. Where it was once a crampy five seater it is now a spacious seven seater.
There is only one engine available with the land Rover Discovery and that is the 2993cc V6 turbo diesel which produces 251bhp and comes with an eight speed gear system. This updated version is much more refined and efficient offering a smooth and powerful performance. It can go to 60 mph at a reasonable 9.6 seconds and though it may not be the best it is definitely not bad. However, it is a reality that the Land Rovers Discovery is not cheap to buy and run. If it is to be used as a company car, maximum tax rate of 35% applies. The Disco has shown some reliability issues over the years. In the 2012 JD Power survey, it was rated as below average by its owners in terms of reliability.
