Feng Shui Classes Teach About the Elements

by Mary louise Flowers

Learning which colors represent which elements in feng shui classes is one of the easiest ways to shift the energy in a space. The feng shui color guide helps determine which areas of your home or office should have certain color schemes representing the five elements of fire, earth, metal, water, and wood. A healthy balance of the five elements will create a harmonious environment in your home or work space, so consider meeting with someone with a feng shui certification to advise you on how to best incorporate the elemental colors into your home’s décor, or seek that out in feng shui training for yourself.

The first element is fire, represented by yellow, pink, purple, orange, and red. Colors representing the fire element are best placed in the south, southwest, and northwest areas. You may choose to paint the walls of these areas one of the fire element colors, or you can use a yellow vase, a pink wall, a purple piece of artwork, etc. The fire element activates personal energy and helps bring support to your career and recognition for your work.

The second element is earth, which will create stability and harmony in your relationships when balanced. Colors representing the earth elements include the colors usually known as earth tones, light yellow, and all shades of sand and beige. These colors are best placed in the center of your home, in addition to the northeast and southwest.

The third feng shui element is metal, which brings clarity, focus, and precision. Use whites, grays, and metallics to represent metal in the west, northwest, and north areas of your home.

Water is the fourth element and a symbol of abundance. Balanced water energy will bring calm, trust, and renewal to your life. Use black and blue to represent water in the north, east, and southeast areas of your home. Consider painting a wall a light blue to brighten up your space (and your life!) significantly.

The final feng shui element is wood which, when balanced, will bring vibrant health and abundance to your life. Use brown and green to represent the wood element in the south, southeast, and east areas of your house.

There are innumerable combinations of ways you can use color to symbolize the feng shui elements in your home. And although you don’t necessarily need to take feng shui classes or have a feng shui certification, it definitely helps. So consider hiring someone to show you how to have fun using art, decorative accessories, paint, and other items to beautify your home while also balancing the energy.
