How to Print Eco-friendly Fundraising Calendars

by Brad Kartel

Good fundraising ideas are always based on the best intentions and philosophy. That is why when you print fundraising calendars, you should be aware that you are printing them with paper which of course comes from trees that now we desperately need to conserve. Many people have started becoming environmentally conscious in these times and in the good spirit of fundraising, it is important to contribute to the environment as well by minimizing your impact with your fundraising calendars.

If you do not know the first thing about being eco-friendly though, you do not have to worry. To preserve the dignity of your fundraising calendars and make them more eco-friendly for you, I shall give you a few green tips when you are printing your custom calendars. Consider all these tips well to print fundraising calendars that are not only for a good cause, but also is more environment-friendly.

a. Cutting them down to size – The bigger your calendars are the more paper they need. So to be eco-friendly with your fundraising calendars you may want to cut them down to size. You won’t need a large wall calendar really to be effective at selling them for fundraising. A medium sized and even small sized calendar is typically enough for people. In fact, you might even be able to sell more with those smaller custom calendars since many people find those more useful and manageable. So cut down your calendars to a smaller size. You will conserve paper and might even get more sales out of your fundraising calendars.

b. Using eco friendly paper – Now, you will still need to print your custom calendars in paper of course, no matter how small you want them to be. So to be eco-friendly with the paper materials themselves, you will want to choose the right kinds of paper sources. You have two main eco-friendly choices here.

Recycled paper – Of course the most common option to be eco friendly with your fundraising calendars is to choose recycled paper as the main medium for printing. Typically of course, recycled paper is not as smooth and clean looking as virgin pulp paper. However, with lots of paper materials recycled these days, most people are already familiar with these efforts. So they will even applaud your custom calendars for using these kinds of paper and not consider it as a sign of bad quality.

“Sustainable” virgin paper – You also have the option to use paper materials that come from sustainable forests. These paper materials basically use pulp from trees that are sources from “tree farms”. Tree farms basically produce fast growing trees for use in different products including paper of course. With this kind of paper material, you will not really be harming the environment too much, while at the same time you can get better looking paper results for calendar printing.

c. Choosing non-toxic organic inks – Inks can sometimes be potentially harmful to the environment. This is especially true for metallic inks which have materials that can seep underground once the calendars are thrown away. So another green option for your calendar printing would be to choose non toxic organic inks. These still have the same quality of most common color inks, the only difference is that they come from organic sources which safely biodegrade in the environment without consequences.

d. Losing the chemical coatings – You should also consider losing those chemical coatings or finishes in your calendar printing. Those special coatings that add moisture and water resistance in your paper materials also of course makes your calendar a lot harder to biodegrade. This means that your calendars will be “trash” for a far longer time than is necessary. So you should just lose some of those chemical coatings for paper resistance. You will save money and you will save your environment as well.

e. Better binding methods – Finally when it comes to binding your custom calendars, the best way to make it more environmentally friendly is to choose the binding that biodegrades. So do not choose plastic or metal ring binding for your color calendars. Paper twines and twists are more ideal since they are strong but they still biodegrade, leaving you with little concerns that those will harm the environment.

Great! So what are you waiting for? Now that you know how to make your custom calendars more eco-friendly, you should start applying it to your custom calendars. Good luck!
