How To Reduce Your Bills In The Bathroom

by Jamie Lyons

Condensation reduction will automatically reduce your fuel bills. When moist warm air hits a cold surface condensation occurs and moist warm air is produced in your home all the time. It usually manifests itself on the bathroom window as mostly droplets, but it is capable of forming on any cold surfaces. To cure condensation you need to reduce the moisture in your home and balance the heating and insulation.

Insulating your loft will keep your home warmer for longer because the insulation holds the heat inside your home which will automatically put your heating bills lower. Making the bathroom and windows draught proof has a dual purpose first of all it stops cold air coming into your bathroom and also prevents moisture from escaping into the rest of the house where it can form condensation. Another way of reducing moisture in your bathroom is to have an extractor fan.

Drying clothes indoors produces moisture so whenever possible put your clothes out to dry outside, if you must dry them indoors and put them in the bathroom make sure the windows open and the door closed. If you wipe the condensation from the windows with a towel put the towel outside to dry because leaving it indoors just re-circulates the moisture.

Ambient heaters such as portable gas heaters in a bathroom produce a lot of water which is why many landlords ban them for safety reasons. Remember to close the bathroom windows as soon as possible because an open window increases the amount of heat needed to warm the bathroom again. Blocking vents or flues can be extremely dangerous because they are often a way of eliminating fumes which may be toxic to people or animals.

For central heating to work effectively the maximum amount of heat must be allowed to get into the room and allow the warm air to circulate more easily. That is another reason not to dry clothes within the house because clothes on a radiator prevent the heating from working properly and also it redistributes moisture into your home.

If you can reduce the amount of water consumed in a bathroom you can cut your water bills considerably, modern toilets have a two pronged flush button. This allows you to use the minimum amount of water to flush a toilet where possible thus saving water. If you have not got one of these in your bathroom then introduce a brick into the toilet cistern. No one will see it and it will automatically reduce the amount of water that can be flushed down the toilet.

Some of these savings may seem small but collectively they add up. Making your bathroom more green and Eco friendly will make your bathroom a safer and happier place as well as reducing your bills
