How To Get Gambling Debt Relief
Learn how to get help if you've lost money to gambling and you're struggling with debt!
Gambling debt is just like any other debt, with one big difference. For many people, there is a tremendous temptation to try to get out of debt the same way you got into debt in the first place - by gambling more!
Obviously, this is a very risky strategy. Take someone who runs up a bunch of debt buying clothes and furniture. It is obvious that their first step in getting out of debt is to stop buying more stuff. There is no way that buying more clothes and furniture is going to solve their debt problems.
But a gambler sees things differently. Someone who has lost a bunch of money betting on horses or gambling in casinos is very likely to think that they can get their money back by gambling more. Why? Because they believe that one day they'll "hit the big one".
The average person who buys a few lottery tickets each week thinks much the same way. Every once in a while they win a few dollars. But over time, they steadily lose money. They know this. But they still believe in the dream of winning!
Sadly, we still do it despite the fact that we know in our hearts that the odds are against us. Nost small-time gamblers lose money. Nearly all big-time gamblers end up broke. The only real winnners?
The casinos and racetracks and state lotteries who take these bets!
The very small number of instant millionaire jackpot winners just keep that dream alive so everyone keeps playing.
How do you get gambling debt relief?
First, you must give up the idea, the dream, of beating hundreds-of-millions-to-one odds of winning. Find other ways to "get your fix." Get a second job. Start a business. Get involved with a competitive sport or activity. As long as you believe that you can profit from gambling, you'll never stop.
Second, try to understand WHY you'll never get rich by gambling. Read books on the statistics of gambling. Analyze casino games to understand that nobody can beat the casino in the long run. Read stories about past lottery winners and how their lives fall apart - even with the winnings!
Then, stop gambling - or get help if you cannot stop on your own. Once you are able to stop gambling, then you can get help with the debt. By contacting a credit counseling or debt management program. Or an attorney, if it's real bad.
Once you get control of your gambling, then you can regain control of your money. And finally regain control of your life!
