Orlando Theme Park Survival Tips
At Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, there is 47 square miles of entertainment. Within four theme parks, there are 58 attractions and more than 6000 rides. That's right, six thousand rides - not including water parks (more than a dozen). There is a whole lot of fun to be had at Disneyworld Orlando, but there are also a few inevitabilities that come with such a popular destination; line-ups for one, and crowds. No one wants to spend their hard-earned vacation days standing in a line with hundreds of other sticky-hot visitors. Thankfully, we have a few tips for surviving the downfalls of Disneyworld.
Before setting foot outside the hotel room, have every family member go over a park map and pick out their top three places to visit. Then make a plan to accommodate everyone's wishes - parents need to have an awareness of where they are within the park! Also, get Front-of-the-Line or FastPass passes for everyone. It is worth the expense if it means saving long hours waiting in line.
One of the biggest concerns for families traveling to Disneyland is getting lost. As mentioned above, parents need to familiarize themselves with the park, via a map. To help everyone be able to easily spot each other, have each person wear a piece of clothing that stands out. A bright yellow baseball hat, fluorescent pink t-shirt, or multicolored toques, are basic ideas. As long as it stands out, each family member matches and is easily recognizable in a crowd of hundreds it will work.
Line-ups are inevitable, but there are ways to reduce drastically the amount of time you spend in them. If at all possible, book your family accommodations at a resort on site. By staying at a Disney resort on the grounds of the theme park, your family has early-morning privileges at the parks. That means that before the public is granted access, you can get to your favorite attractions and rides. Before you hit the attractions it's a good idea to have a game-plan laid out. Head to the popular ones first thing in the morning, for example Harry Potter will be super busy so go there first. If plan your own meals before or after traditional meal times, you can avoid line-ups. When the line-ups start to build, head for the playgrounds or pool, then go back when people are eating lunch or dinner.
Disney is a business, so naturally there are opportunities to purchase toys and souvenirs absolutely everywhere. If you strike a bargain with your kids first, you can likely avoid saying 'no' all day long. They can purchase one souvenir at the end of the day. After all, carrying around a package all day will mean bringing it on rides, possible breakage, or even worse - losing it!
