Stone Cold by Demi Lovato- Demi has been teasing photos and behind the scene quips about the newest, and rumor has it favorite, single from her album Confident for some time now so of course I was chomping at the bit to finally see how it comes out. Boy was I NOT disappointed. Such power and presence in such a tiny person! Stone Cold is nothing short of amazing. I know I say that a lot but I’m serious. The girl has chops. The video is set in the middle of an icy, wintry wonderland deep in Lord only knows where and sets the tone for what is just over 3 minutes of emotional, soul-baring singing. This song didn’t make me cry I promise but it did make me feel. I mean, how could it not? Demi is basically telling her crush, lost love, whomever, that she’s trying her hardest to feel happy for his moving on from what they have but it’s, understandably,
hard. She’s doing what most of us are afraid to and that’s telling them “If happy is her/ I’m happy for you.” Not an easy task I assure you. We’ve all been there. Have that one person that we loved so deeply yet lost and we notice that they’ve moved on. “Stone Cold/ God know I try to feel/Happy for you.” And really, we do. We feel you Demi; we get it. The lyrics are repetitive and the melody moves between subtle piano accompaniments to heavy power ballad-esque tone all the while playing easily into Demi’s seemingly smooth ability to take us from sad and withering to belting and passionate. All of which come together to make yet another hit for Miss Lovato.
I’ve become so enamored with the song that I’ve clicked on almost every reference to it, including her performances of the piece. All she has and all that is needed is Demi’s amazing voice and a piano. Chills every time. All in all I give Demi’s new single and video a resounding 10 out of 10 for its everything. The lyrics, the music, the scenery, the overall beauty. Well done and I will be sure to relish in the amazing-ness that is Stone Cold until the next single drops.
