Building Value In Your Home To Protect Your Equity
In the midst of the debacle that is today’s economy, no one or one area is safe from the downturn. This includes vacation areas such as beach resorts and ski country, where expensive homes dot the landscape and were once generally regarded as recession-proof. These days’ expensive areas are no different from their counterpart middle class areas. Though they (expensive homes) may have taken larger hits in terms of dollar amounts, the effect is the same throughout the housing market. The answer or at least the idea to stop the bleeding is to implement improvements to your house that will increase value and not cost you a great deal of money. It is a difficult task, but here is one sure fire way to improve your kitchen, without spending a lot of money.
Gone are the days of moguls building huge mountain houses, like the 55,000 – square foot ranch that Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the former Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States of America built. This house took three and a half years (3 ½) to build, had a heated driveway that looked like the approach to a Grand Hotel, contained nine bedrooms, and twenty one (21) bathrooms. As one builder put it “I have seen shopping centers that were smaller”. But why did I use this example, because excess was the norm for the last decade, people expected more and were willing to pay for it. Grant it, this example is the most extreme, but the point is that people still have the expectation that they will get more, so if your going to improve your kitchen, you want to still try to get more without paying for it.
It is a trick to accomplish this feat, but the best way to start is with proper planning. Build a budget and look at what is important. The top of your list for kitchen improvements should be kitchen cabinets.
Kitchen Cabinets can be VERY expensive, if you try to put in all of the bells and whistles that you see in the magazines. Go for quality, rather than a brand name. There are plenty of RTA Cabinets on the market that are a higher quality and lower price than most of the big name cabinets on the marketThe absolute best way to save money on kitchen cabinets is to buy RTA kitchen cabinets. RTA is not a brand name; instead it is the name of a style of cabinets. It stands for “ready to assemble” and basically you are buying unassembled cabinets and assembling them yourself or with the help of a handy person. (No contractors needed). Why are you buying RTA kitchen cabinets? Because these cabinets are about half the price of regular kitchen cabinets! Go online and perform a Google search for RTA kitchen cabinets. You will see a good list of what is out there and you will quickly find that the online prices are about thirty percent (30%) less than buying these RTA cabinets in a retail store. So also remember that buying online is not only cheaper, but it saves you time and gas money.
The kitchen is a big investment in your house. Starting with good looking kitchen cabinets is the absolute best way to start adding value to your house. Using RTA kitchen cabinets (and remember there are also RTA bathroom vanities) will give the look of an expensive kitchen, but will only cost you a fraction of the money. So now you can appear to be spending large amounts of money on your kitchen renovation, but in reality you are only spending about half of what it appears to be!
