LPN- A professional care taker

LPN is abbreviated as Licensed Practical Nurse and they play an important role in health care system. They perform various works such as taking vital signs, observing patients, giving injections, administering medication, dressing wounds, and performing diagnostic tests. Normally, LPN’s will work under the supervision of the physicians, registered nurses and dentists. They also help in assisting patient’s day to day activities such as eating, bathing, dressing etc. LPN’s are mainly responsible for recording the details of the patients by observing them, their response to the medications and treatment and report the result to the registered nurse or the physician who is in charge. LPN is a nurse who had gone through a practical nurse program and has got the license from the state in order to give regular patient care under physical or registered nurse. Skills  Have good interpersonal relationship.  Have caring personality.  Accuracy.  Perfect communication skills.  Physical fitness.  Able to handle stress.  Have patience.  Knowledgeable in medicine and dentistry.  Good command over English.  Time management. Giving full attention to what the patient is saying and understanding them correctly is the primary skill which one should attain while they are in this field. Thus, the above mentioned skills are very much important for the growth. Duties  They should gather health history of the patients  They should record and measure the vital signs  They should prepare the patient and give injections.  They should analyze information and then evaluate results in order to choose the best solutions.  They should provide personal assistance to the patients and co-workers.  They should perform physical activities which are necessary.  They should monitor the patient and inform the status of them to the physician.  They should provide bed care for patients.  They should provide emergency services as and when needed.  They should perform the work which is assigned. Duties of the LPN’s are very simple and above all people should have much patience while dealing with patients. Licensed practical nurses generally have a great deal with the patient. It is very important to keep the good spirit with patients. LPN’s also check temperature, take blood pressure and apply bandages to the patients. Some of them will also assist medication to the patients which are indicated by the healthcare provider. They require a specialized knowledge in taking care of patient. Licensed practical nurses sometimes work for a special unit which includes maternity units, burn units and cardiac units. Nursing can be a stressful career but a successful LPN will participate in the appropriate stress relievers. They need lot of patience, compassion to provide high and qualitative care towards patients. LPN’s work is very hard and need to have lot of physical and mental strength in order to care a sick person and bringing back them into normal position.
