As the cost for a post-secondary education skyrockets and the time it takes to get a university degree seems to keep extending, it is almost no longer cost effective to go to university - that is unless you can get tons of scholarships and grants. Many of these funds are well known, but by being a little creative and doing a little research, students can find some unusual university scholarships and grants to help them improve their lives through higher education.

Some students chose to go through the process of getting students loans. It is easy to see why: there are no essays to write and the amount of money given is sometimes the equivalent to a year's salary for some. But the problem with a loan is that well, it's just that - a loan. Therefore it will need to be paid back in full - with interest. Often loans give graduates a six month reprieve before payments are due. This was fine a decade ago. However, nowadays many graduates find in today's economy that this is not enough time to find a job that can pay the bills, forcing graduates to move back home with their parents and default on loans, thereby ruining their credit. Grants and Scholarships do often take a little more time to prepare and find but in the end, the money is a gift that does not need to be repaid. The time and effort to find and apply for these scholarships is well worth it. Websites such as the one listed below can help reduce the pain-stacking time and effort involved in applying for scholarships and grants.

One way that this website in particular helps is that they help find crazy scholarships and grants. This helps the student save time in looking for scholarships. Some of the grants and scholarships out there are mind boggling. There are scholarship gifts for every gender, race, education level, but also for where you were born, what your appearance looks like, your family dynamic, and your little quirks and interest, even scholarships for left handed students. Who knew that your penchant for knitting scarfs for friends or your collection of comic books could earn you college funds?! Using a dependable website to help find university funds will help students avoid scams and frauds too.

Different scholarships require different application processes. Some will ask for essays about the student or the organization offering the scholarship. Some will be performance based, or ask applicants to create something. (An example is the famous Duck Brand Duct Tape Scholarships.) Others will assess future plans or unique characteristics such as the infamous left-handed scholarships with minimal effort on the applicant's part.

Once you decide that getting scholarships is on your to-do list, find a great website to help you get going Happy hunting!
