Is It Really Attraction?
Does your mental focus really energize the universe to bring to you the desires of your heart? Many who teach the Law of Attraction swear it happens just that way. But do we by our mental focus really become a magnet? Or, is there a more logical explanation?
There is no denying that people who are clear and persistent in their thinking receive the things that they desire. Receiving or becoming what you think about is not new. We were designed by the Creator that way. As it says in the Bible, "as he thinks in his heart, so is he."
But what is it that actually happens? Here's an exercise that shows how this law works. But, as you will see, it is not the universe bringing things to you.
Do you know the exact number of fire hydrants in the area where you live? Unless you are a firefighter, the answer is, no. Why? Because, you have no need to know.
But if for the next three days, you make it your mission to find and see just how many there are, you will be amazed. Now keep in mind that in order to find and see exactly how many there are, you must really focus your mind on fire hydrants every time you are away from your house.
I have done this exercise before and I have encouraged others to try it. The results are always the same. There are fire hydrants you have never seen before all over the place.
Now ask yourself a very logical question. Did the universe just bring them to you like a magnet because your mind was focused on them? The answer is obvious; they have been there all the time.
So why then did we never see all those fire hydrants before? We didn't find them or see them because we were not looking for them. There was absolutely no mental activity concerning them at all, and as such we didn't see them even though they were in plain sight.
Again, there is no denying that when a person puts enough mental focus on something, they will have it in their life. The time or amount of mental focus depends on the individual person and whatever mind blocks he or she may have. But it absolutely works time after time.
My point is that if we define this law as the universe bringing things to us, we just might hinder someone from receiving what they desire. If a person thinks that what they desire is going to be brought to them, like a magnet, they might not engage the second and very important part of this law, which is to seek and find.
I can sit at home all day long thinking and focusing on fire hydrants. None will ever come to me like a magnet. I will not wake up some morning with my backyard full of them.
This wonderful law might be better titled, "The Law of Seek and Find," or, "The Law of Vision." Whatever we call it, we need to understand that God not only filled the universe with great abundance, but He also designed the human brain. When we choose to focus on something and then go after it, our vision has expanded and we can see and find what we couldn't see and find before.
Because of this law, instead of being engulfed in the problem, we can be solution- minded possibility-thinkers. We don't have to settle and accept things the way they are because we can choose to seek and find. We can truly have hope and not despair.
The Bible says that a double minded person is unstable in all his ways. We can choose to stay our minds on what we desire, and we can pray and ask God for His help. But if you ask, make sure that you seek and knock.
The Bible says, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."
