Water is fun to play with, but it can also be deadly.

Water is fun to play with, but it may also be perilous. Youngsters are irresistibly drawn to water. It's sparkly. Things float in it and it creates a sound when you smack it. But water may also be dangerous. More than one thousand United States children drown yearly.

The age groups at best risk are children and teen males. And for every kid that drowns, there might be up to 4 non-lethal submersions major enough to require hospitalization. Neighborhood Swimming Pools : About three hundred kids under the age of five drown every year in U.S. swimming pools. In each of the incidents, most victims were being watch by one or both folks. It takes only a few minutes for a child to drown. More than three-quarters of children who drown at neighborhood pools are missing from sight for less than five minutes.

The key to preventing these tragedies is to have multiple layers of protection. These cares can help keep children safer around swimming pools.

Fence It In: swimming pool should be completely surrounded by fencing material.

Pool Gates should be self-latching and self-closing. The gate latch should be out of the kid's reach.

Net it: Installing a pool net will help increase the protection of children as there are some swimming pools that don't permit for the install of a fence for safety. Install Alarms : If you house is one of the walls of your swimming pool enclosure, doors leading to the pool area should be protected with alarms.

In addition, add an underwater pool alarm which sounds when something hits the water. Make sure you can hear the alarm within the house. Teach Kids to Swim : But remember that swimming lessons won't drown-proof a kid. The age to educate kids to swim is the same as to ride a bike - age five. Youngsters under the age of four years usually aren't developmentally ready for formal instruction in swimming.
