Invisalign: A Solution For Crooked Teeth

by Mark Miller

Over the years, dentistry has evolved to be more than extraction or removal of bad teeth. Modern technology has helped widen the services a dentist can offer to patients. If you happen to be a victim who silently suffers from misaligned or crooked teeth, there are some dental solutions available to help you get a killer smile. So, there is no reason to continue hiding or avoid smiling because of your dental status.

Invisalign are a product of modern dentistry techniques that are rapidly gaining popularity across the world as the best orthodontic treatments. They are praised for strengthening teeth without having to suffer the embarrassment of wearing traditional metal braces.

Also referred to as invisible aligners, these braces utilize clear dental aligners that invisibly move your teeth into the desired positions. Anyone standing next to you can barely notice them since they are almost entirely invisible to the human eye. Unless you wish to tell people that you are wearing invisible aligners, no one will ever know.

Vol. 44, Issue 11 of the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics estimates that over 2.5 million orthodontic patients have benefitted from using invisible aligners in strengthening and straightening of teeth. This has been confirmed by the Australian Dental Council (ADC) which puts the number at around 250,000 patients annually.

How Invisible Aligners Work Their Magic

When you visit a dentist for teeth alignment, you may have invisible aligners fitted into your mouth. They will slowly and invisibly straighten your teeth into the correct position. This will happen over a period of time. Invisible aligners are custom build to match your dental structure, thus providing little or even no discomfort in your mouth whatsoever.

For the next 2 to 3 weeks, your dentist would be providing new sets of invisible aligners to enhance the performance of the previous round of aligners. Throughout the process, your teeth would be shifting gradually until the final desired teeth alignment is achieved.

Who Qualifies for this Type of Procedure?

All adults qualify to get this kind of treatment, but it doesn't mean that those of lower ages cannot benefit from invisible aligners. Actually, minors and teens are among those who suffer the most from being ridiculed for wearing metal braces. Fortunately, there are special invisible aligners that have been designed to cater for minors and teenagers.

The "Teen" version features a blue-dot display that reminds teens to put on their aligners for the recommended period of 22 hours a day. The smaller version (i7) that is designed for minors is intended to fix dental problems in children.

Perhaps the biggest benefit patients wearing invisible aligners stand to gain is the assurance of having braces on that aren't visible to the rest of the world. You won't have to worry about who is looking at your metallic braces, what they think about the look of your teeth or whether they like your new look or not. It would be a secret that only you know about. Sharing it is a personal option. What's more, the braces don't interrupt your regular schedule or meals.
