Your Future Can be Promising

by Christopher Lanne

I'm sure you have heard this statement, "Your future can be promising.", many times throughout your life. I know I have. But what does it really mean? Does it mean, if you continue to make sacrifices for a business, it will grow and you will grow with it? Does it mean, if you study hard and focus only on your schooling that you will magically be happy when you complete school? Does it mean that your choices should be made with the future in mind?

What Does "Promising Future" Mean

I suppose the answers to the above questions depends upon what "a promising future" means to you. To me, it simply means a future where I am fundamentally at peace with myself and the world as a whole. That doesn't mean the world needs to be at peace or even that my life is totally at peace; in fact, those futures don't exist--at least not yet. What it means to me, is even when the world is tumultuous and my own life is challenging that I operate with an underlying feeling of peace--inner peace.

What is a Promising Future

Keeping in mind what a promising future truly means...the only way to achieve this "state of mind" is to start making decisions to live in the moment, in the now, to be conscious of your choices. When you make choices that honor you and your life everyday, your promising future is at hand. A company cannot give you this. A government cannot give your this. Your parents cannot give your this. Only you can give this gift to yourself, so what are you waiting for. Start living consciously today. Make positive choices. Honor yourself. Model how you want your children to treat themselves.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line is that you can never know your actual future. Today, may be your last day on Earth. Tomorrow, you may win the lottery or lose all your money and assets. Next week, you may discover that everything you've studied for and the job you work at no longer is of any interest to you. The only true way to know your future is to live for today. When you live in the moment. When you make choices that honor you, you are creating your future each day. A future that isn't about what you have or don't have but about how you feel about life---knowing that no matter what is going on around you, that you will make a choice that best serves your destiny for inner peace.

When you live in the moment, your future as a person in society is undefined, liquid, and free. In other words, your happiness or peacefulness isn't tied to what job you have, or what education you have, or what relationships you have; it is tied to making the best choices no matter what presents itself. Living this way, ensures that "you" empower yourself to embrace inner peace on your own terms.
