Protect Your Firm From Telemarketing Scammers

by Belinda Summers

Increasing business profitability is the desire of every sensible entrepreneur, which is why they would employ almost any marketing or advertising strategy that will boost their sales. One of the biggest and most reliable methods they have found is through the use of telemarketing. By hiring the services of a telemarketing call center, companies are able to uncover new markets, increase their market share, and improve their overall profitability. While all these can make any entrepreneur running to the nearest contact center, here's its one big catch: not all of them are legitimate corporations. What's even worse is that there is no guaranteed way to differentiate between the credible telemarketers and those swindlers.

For every business entrepreneur, the risk of being cheated out of their investment is actually one of the biggest concerns in their minds. This is one of the reasons why they would usually be suspicious of telemarketers who would suddenly call them and advertise their services. While this is the normal way for professional telemarketers to advertise themselves, there are some who use this manner to dupe unsuspecting firms to pay them for services that are shabby or, at worst, non-existent. This is what businesses are exactly trying their best to avoid. The problem here lies in the fact that there are too many firms around the world that offer telemarketing services, it is just too confusing. But there is a good answer to that.

Before anything else, we should first understand how fraudulent telemarketers are able to pose as credible call centers. They first begin by calling their target, called a 'mark', offering their services to them. They would claim that they can give you value for your money, offering a hundred percent money-back guarantee if you are unsatisfied with their service. You might even be told that the leads from the first day of production could immediately be used. They would usually give you the name of their website, often flashy or very professional, as proof of their actual existence. It is also possible that they will direct you to websites that tout their supposed reliability and the testimonials of their alleged previous clients, furthering the scam.

Now, as a cautious enterprise owner, you should be able to identify if the words you hear are all lies or for real. Also, a little role-playing as a detective can play a huge part in identifying which are the legal companies and which are the ones just after your money. If you tell the caller that would need some time first to think about the offer, the legitimate telemarketers will immediately agree. A scammer would not do that, even becoming more aggressive. A legitimate company often has brochures and written materials about themselves, and can be sourced from outside providers. Also, if you search on the web for their company, without using the ones provided by the caller, then you would find sources that can verify their reliability or not. It also pays to check with government agencies and telemarketing associations to see if they recognize the firm that is offering their services to you. These things are just a few that you can actually do.

Done correctly, and with consultation with peers and those who have previously used the services of such a call center can help protect you from the harms of telemarketing scams.
