Internet Home Based Business Opportunities and Tax Advantages

by Aaron Meredith

Internet home based business opportunities offer tremendous tax advantages that you would not be able to receive in a traditional job. The fact is tax laws are written to promote business ownership. When you do own your own business, you can then take advantage of the numerous tax advantages inherent with business ownership. The primary difference between the way in which and employee pays their taxes and the way in which a business owner pays their taxes is when they pay and how this affects what the money they get to keep. An employee pays their taxes first on whatever they earn and keep whatever is left after paying their taxes. The business owner is able to go out and spend their money building their business, and then they are taxed on what is left over. Let’s use a numerical example to clarify here. If you are an employee and earn $50K, you are taxed on this amount. You keep whatever is left over. If you are a business owner and earn $50K but you spent $15K building your business, you are only taxed on $35K that is left over. You can clearly see through this example how it is advantageous from a tax standpoint to be a business owner. As a business owner you are able to reduce the overall amount of taxable income. Now that we understand how tax laws are written to benefit business owners, which include those involved in internet home based business opportunities, let’s examine some of the business deductions you may be entitled to. Now understand that in order to take these deductions they need to be from the normal course of doing business and necessary. Also you must be in business attempting to earn a profit. By being involved in an internet home based business opportunity, you may able to deduct any business equipment. This includes computers, phones, fax machines, printers, ect. Any of these pieces of equipment that are necessary for you to run your business is a potential write off. You can deduct office supplies you purchase for the operation of your business. You can deduct internet and phone service that are obviously necessary for you to conduct business. You may also be able to deduct certain software that you have either paid for or subscribe to that is needed for your business. You may be entitled to deduct certain home office expenses and portions of certain bills such as electricity and property taxes. You may be entitled to deduct mileage and other auto expenses that result from you operating your business. You may also be able to deduct certain business costs associated with travel, entertainment, and meals. Be sure to speak with a certified tax consultant as they will be able to tell you exactly which deductions you are entitled to. Also be sure to document all your expenses. As long as you can provide proper documentation of your spending and as long as these expenses are within the tax code guidelines, you will be protected if you are ever audited. As you can see being involved with internet home based business opportunities provides you the chance to take advantage of tax laws that clearly favor business ownership. Be sure to speak with a certified tax professional as they will know exactly what you can and cannot deduct and be able to provide you with information about your individual situation. Also be sure to document all of your expenses as this will protect you if you’re ever audited. Again speak with your CPA about what advantages you could be enjoying through business ownership. The tax laws favor business ownership and if you are involved in an internet home based business opportunity, you may be able to take advantage of numerous deductions.
