What we need to know about car tires?

by Pavel Kolev

Automobile tires have been divided to tires for motorbikes, light, medium, 4x4 (SUV) and heavy vehicles tyres. This division is called tires by application. There are tyres for low, middle and luxury class automobiles too. The parameters of the tires are very different – speed index, load index, noise level, mileage, fuel economy, brake and torque ability, road resistance and etc. Each tire has its good and not so good parameters and characteristics. There is another division of the automobile tires. It’s called division by season. According to this the tires have been divided to winter, summer and all season tires. Summer tyres have larger contact fields to ensure drive stability and optimum grip on asphalt roads. There are directional grooves to prevent aquaplaning and to give more stability and good handling on wet roads. Often there are little radial grooves to help dispersion the water. Winter tyres are made from special rubber compound that remains flexible at very low temperatures. They have deep treed design to ensure stability and perfect grip on snow and ice covered roads. This kind of tyres are designed to be used on temperatures under 7 Celsius degree. The last kinds of tires are all season tires. The structure of those tires is borrowed from the other two kinds. All season tires have larger contact fields to ensure good traction on asphalt roads, deep directional pattern for perfect handling on wet surfaces and good traction and braking ability on snow and ice.
