Setting Attainable Goals To Lose Baby Weight

by Mark Stankovich

It is natural for new mothers to covet loss of the extra pounds gained during pregnancy. However, many fail to accomplish this, one of the primary reasons being the setting of unachievable goals. Losing weight is never an easy task; it requires self-motivation and determination which are hard to maintain when a slim shape seems to be far off or out of sight. The most effective way to regain your figure is maintaining an overall curriculum involving diet, exercise and general lifestyle alternations along with maintaining the correct attitude. Here are some rational guidelines. Do not rush into a weigh-loss immediately after the birth: Allow rest to you body for the first three months or so after the delivery; focusing on healthy eating and developing an exercise plan with the help of a specialist. Once your body begins to recover, start following a healthy, low-fat weight-loss program. Do not indulge in a vigorous dieting plan.

Take special care of your body: Although you may be impatient to get rid of the accumulated fat, keep in mind that your body has been through enormous strain, especially during the last few months of pregnancy as well as during the delivery. To go on an instant diet is abusing the body and mind.

Realistic physical exercise plan: Focusing on the technique of the desired results is more important than focusing on the result itself. If the set target of losing 20 pounds is not achieved it this will only discourage you. Conversely, focusing primarily on the technique and its regularity allows the body reasonable time while knowing that weight-loss is attainable as long as the technique is followed.

Be true to yourself: Beat discouragement by reminding yourself that your body is unique and it may take time to regain its shape. (However, this is not an excuse to slack in following a diet program.) Get rid of false aspirations of looking like a celebrity. This will only stress you further. Stress will backfire, causing you to binge on junk foods to relieve it. Allow your body at least 10 - 12 months to get back the shape.

You might have a lot of questions about how to lose pregnancy weight, especially if you're a first time mother and you weren't prepared for the changes that occur in your life afterwards. But by setting the right goals and sticking to them along with a good postpartum exercise program, you can get your body back to normal.
