Your Deep Understanding Of Stocks Will Make You Good Profits Ahead

by Cedric Welsch

A lot of people when they hear about the word "stocks" think that it's just a way to make profits. Well, indeed it is the right thinking to incorporate stocks with. But the real truth is that most people don't really know the main definition of a stock. In other words, they don't even know what a stock really is. Why is it there? What is its purpose, and how come it exists? Well, if you are one of these people, then allow me to explain to you briefly on what stocks are really all about.

When you mention the word "stocks", basically this is a representation of some part or share in a particular company's ownership. Having said that statement, we can now further conclude that the more stocks you acquire under a specific company, the bigger share you ought to be entitled with when it comes to the revenues of that company. In other words, you own a part of that company since you are considered an investor. Therefore you are entitled of any profits to be made by that company based on the size or percentage of stocks you own with them.

Moving on, it should be now clear to you that once you become a stock holder for a certain business entity or company, you can safely say that you are as well an owner to that company. If there are hundreds of stock holders for a particular company, then all of them are considered part owners - and you are certainly amongst them. So, as an owner of a business entity, you own a part of whatever it owns. Whatever that is in it, you are a part owner. Let me emphasize once more that even the profits the company make, you are entitled to own a share of that.

Once you purchased a stock, you will be given a certificate. This is a physical representation that you are indeed officially an investor or a stock holder. With the sudden uprise of the internet, stock certificates are now represented in electronic format. Because of this, the trading of stocks has become virtually fast and easy as compared to earlier years of doing stock trading transactions.

However, if you think that owning a stock in a company only limits you to the idea of just being able to say that you are one amongst the hundreds of other part owners, well there is one more thing to it that you should know about. As a part owner, you also have the privilege to be a part in casting votes when choosing leaders such as the board of directors. So, stock holders do have influence over the leaders managing the company because of such privilege given to investors.
