It is often said, you could smell Cleopatra before she was even in front of you. Known for her many beauty regimens, Cleopatra indulged herself in the beautiful scents of essential oils--the worlds first known perfume--for its fragrance and to keep her skin smooth supple.
She also believed in preventative care and started using anti-aging elements before any real signs of aging had occurred at all, spreading aloe vera gel and plant extracts on her face to prevent wrinkles and retain moisture.
Salt scrubs were another of her favorite beauty enhancing regimes, she often had servants exfoliate her skin with it for it's smoothing and softening effects and loved the scent of rose petal water, often bathing in it for its anti-aging properties as well as it's many other benefits.
Her beauty regimen was so important to her that she even wrote a book on her natural beauty secrets and taught her servants all of her techniques.
HOW: To experience a little bit of Cleopatra's beautifying regimen you can make or buy a facial toner. Brighten, smooth and even out skin tone with a combination of one of her favorite ingredients--apple cider vinegar--which she applied to her face to balance the PH, renew and even out skin tone. These ingredients can be found at nearly any health food store. To make a basic apple cider based facial toner take: 1 part raw organic apple cider vinegar to 2.5-3 parts distilled water (not spring), depending on your preference and simply dab or spay on your face after washing daily. Let it dry and then apply your moisturizer as usual. Shake well before each use and store in a dark cool place. This should last up to one month.
Variations: you can add other ingredients to your facial toner including rose water, green tea, herbs and essential oils. Depending on your personal preference, these ingredients can add additional benefits to your skin. Many essential oils are anti-septic in nature and can help fight off acne so would be ideal additions to your homemade toner.
Bottling: you can simply store your homemade toner in a tight lid container and use a cotton swab to dab onto your skin, or, you can simply purchase a travel sized cosmetic sprayer to lightly spray your skin daily.
TIP: start with a heavier dilution of the apple cider vinegar if you've never used it before. As you get use to the mixture you can slowly start making a stronger solution, up to a 1 to 1 ratio.
