Practice Yoga at Home with Spa Products

by Kimberley Matheson Shedrick

2011 has been officially declared National Yoga Year by the world fitness community. I have decided to write some posts about my experiences from fitting a yoga practice into my busy lifestyle.I could write a post about why I practices yoga for the benefits of stretch, flexibility and strength. My hope is that one day everyone can witness real and tangible benefits by adding yoga into their daily lives. Make time to practice yoga at home and roll out your mat.

I have to admit, some parts of a celebrity lifestyle are on my wanted list, like toned arms. Many celebrities continue to include yoga as a top priority for healthful activities to maintain their body's physique.I initially began my journey into yoga as hard core gym sessions. Who's going to argue that your arms are not more toned and you are looking more relaxed.

Most gyms have a childcare, but not the small, independent yoga studios. The quality in the gym versus the studio helps determine the results. Exercising at the gym gets me in to a physical routine. I was engaged in endurance and muscular strength training activities, however I never thought about how my body was working for me. I would change positions as the music came on and I went through the motions with minimal group encouragement. I exercised to overcome my anxiety with my image due to my body. However in a yoga class, I have access to ninety minutes of pure time, where an eloquent instructor continuously gives insight and awareness into how the body operates. This enables me to focus on the body and mind to become stronger, leaner, balanced and grounded. I may not be model thin or muscular, but yoga has the ability to make me content with what I have and what I am.

Ninety minutes in the gym equals ninety minutes spent on the physical body, the mind comes along for the ride.Ninety minutes in a well instructed yoga class equals ninety minutes thinking about how the body and mind can be aligned for improved practice and state of being. A happy mother equals a happy family, thus ninety minutes of yoga is a proven way to ensure smiles.

My favorite gym activity was step training, as an old timer who loves to dance. Serious about any physical activity I undertook, I have always worn a heart rate monitor. As my yoga practice improved my stretch, I was able to jump higher and kick stronger. I enjoyed a surge of enthusiasm dancing to the old music. I was forced to cancel my gym membership when my step training ended. Since this was the only class I enjoyed, plus I could see tangible benefits of my yoga practice, I am disappointed to not further research this collaborative effort for myself or to share with you.

If anyone wants to push the buttons for the powers that decide at other companies that develop fitness regimes, and like me is interested in step training.

When I first started to practice yoga, mindfulness and spirituality were not part of my agenda. I'm not sure when I decided that cynical was cool, and thus I became a practicing yoga cynic. Being ordered to pull, stretch, reach, kick myself into the same poses every time, created ironically, more resistance for me. Mixing it up with other styles of yoga was the solution It soon became clear to me, that I was doing yoga poses without any idea of how or why poses were possible. The language used by a well educated and versed instructor to explain the workings of the human body coupled with accessing the energies and forces that surround us, such as the ground, walls, air in between and limbs.

At least for me, it is impossible to not have a deeper appreciation of our earth, once made aware of that as I push a standing leg into the ground, more energy can be generated to kick, a kicking leg higher. Often said, where there is resistance is exactly where one needs to go, thus now that the door to spiritual highs are kinda nice.

These are just a few of my reasons for enjoying plus wanting to share why I practice yoga.
