"I love reading the weekend editions of the newspapers which I find very relaxing. The early morning is when the papers tend to arrive. The papers come early enough for me to peruse to check out what sales are coming up in the next week or months to follow. The Valentine's Day holiday was coming up very soon. Another chance to buy something that would either be sentimental or would end up just sitting on the shelf collecting dust. In the ads were some Zale's coupons as well as some information about big sales that were going to happen.
My wife of 50 years was talking to one of the grand kids while I was looking at the sale papers. Valentine's Day was definitely on my wife's mind because she mentioned it in a very excited way during their conversation. In fact, her tone made her sound like a woman on her first Valentine's date.
After 50 years, one might think that jewelry or candy isn't needed any more. Valentine's Day is definitely not a holiday that someone outgrows. I can still remember the first time we had celebrated the holiday together. Cash was scarce, but I did get her a small gift. I had presented her a very tiny diamond necklace while we were out taking a stroll around the town.
I know that jewelry has always been a great gift for my wife. Looking back, I suppose I really could have bought her lots more of the shiny stuff. Apparently it's never too late to begin filling up her jewelry box. Buying a new container for all her jewelry might even be a good idea too. I was considering the type that you put in the corner and can hold a lot of watches, necklaces, and rings. While she and our daughter were running errands one time, I headed out to do some shopping. It was like they had planned their trip to town just for my convenience. With all the time I had available, I was able to get everything bought at the store. I'm not a big jewelry fan myself. Besides the fact that I have no clue what looks good when it comes to diamonds, I often can't imagine what my wife would like. I suppose that sparkling and big are probably the two most important things to my wife. There were plenty of pieces to select from. I could tell right away that I needed to sneak out more to shop and surprise her more often."
