Finding the Right Acting School: Los Angeles
If you're looking for an acting school, Los Angeles is probably where you want to go if you're serious about a career, particularly one behind the camera. If you're already out here, then at least that part is done. When it comes to acting classes, Los Angeles has tons of options for people of all ages. For children, teens and adults looking to get instruction in acting--even if just for fun--the Young Actor's Studio is a great place to start, or pick up where you previously left off. The studio provides year-round workshops and classes, some of which include the "younger" young actor's studio, acting technique, theater and production study, adult acting class, intensive summer performance, and acting on camera. There are age specifications and varying skill and technique levels for each class. I always remind my friends that the summer sessions are busiest for the young people, so be sure to register early.
Depending on the degree to which kids wish to explore the world of acting, they have a number of different options available. First of all, parents need to make sure that it's the child's decision to pursue this outlet, and that it is not something the parents simply wish for them to do. If they are still fairly young, the focus on acting should be lighthearted and fun. Acting should be viewed as an engaging, educational activity. Older kids and teens may look at acting as more of a career possibility or something they'd like to study more intensively in the coming years. Either way, be sure your kids are doing it for the right reasons--because they want to do it and not because of some outside pressure. Parents are there to nurture and support their children in whatever they want to do, not shove it down their throats.
If you think your kids are ready for acting school, or just some acting classes, Los Angeles' own Young Actor's Studio has an array of options for children and adults of all ages. The younger ones (aged 4-6) get to have a lot of fun learning the magic that only the theater can offer, discovering acting through improv, storytelling, fairy tales and animal exercises. They learn to express themselves using movement and voice, which builds self esteem and communication skills. When teens attend acting schools, Los Angeles based or not, they get to explore and showcase newly discovered gifts and talents. Some of the skills the young adults focus on at Young Actor's Studio include: sensory recall, place work, and past circumstances; learning to act with all 5 senses; the technicalities of working on camera; showcasing wants and objectives in acting; using your own unique qualities to act; gaining freedom in front of the camera; and producing a show from beginning to end.
When it comes to acting schools, Los Angeles is a veritable fruit stand. For young kids and teens, however, I highly recommend the Young Actor's Studio. It's great for adults, too, for that matter. The school's track record and the satisfaction of its students should speak for itself. It's a great place to get kids started on their career path, or simply let them have a little fun. For adults, acting workshops can help you cultivate an interest or talent you've developed later on in life--or maybe you've had it all along and are just picking up where you left off. If you're serious about a career in acting, or if you're just looking for a fun way to express yourself, you'll get out of the experience whatever you put in. A reputable, affordable acting school like this one is a wonderful place to start.
