What Is Not Allowed In The Back Of A Taxi?

Mirror, signal, manoeuvre…get out!

by Sam Qam

Taxis are hot spots for gossiping for lamenting about the economic or political systems in the country, slagging off celebrities and digressing at length about football. The classic black London taxi is a real institution that we are all fairly proud of as it is recognised around the world and is a welcome sight late on a Saturday night for many revellers. But there are rules…

This article will look at some of the things which are not allowed in the back of most cabs:

Drunks

Unfortunately as many people find out late on a Saturday night is that taxis are not allowed (or just don't want to) take drunken passengers. This is because of a worry that someone under the influence of alcohol might be sick, might get violent or might try to run away without paying. All this plus the sheer unpredictability of someone who is drunk just makes it not worth the hassle for a driver to deal with.

Animals

Rather like drunken people, animals are unpredictable; they might be sick or go to the loo at any time and may get violent or bark. Drivers don't have to take anyone they don't want to and if you are clutching a snarling dog you can imagine what they might decide. The only situation in which this might be OK is if you animal is cute and cuddly and in a nice strong cage.

Fornication

The odd naïve Belfast International Airport Taxis manager aside, most taxi drivers will not let you get hot and heavy in the back of their taxi; partly because it is just a bit embarrassing but also because it is illegal. Indecent exposure in the taxi may well be the responsibility of the driver if he gets stopped by the police. A cab Belfast taxi driver may also not be too happy about having to clean up any fluids that may be excreted either.

Hot food or drinks

Much like fornication, hot food and drink is not allowed in the back of a cab either as it can distract the driver, leave a lingering smell or may require the driver to have to clean up any spillage. Face it, if you try to take a hot bacon and egg roll with ketchup into a hungry taxi drivers vehicle after he has been up all night, still has a couple of hours to go and is completely ravenous, could you blame him for turning you away?
